Larson was given ample opportunity to secure a spot. It didn’t work out. He didn’t get crowded out. He made a choice and I hope he does well.
I'm not saying Larson didnt get opportunity enough but he was definitely crowded out by Frey once he took over that DH spot full time basically. Frey was hitting both LH and RH pitcher so it made Larson in the lineup against RH pretty moot. Larson just never gave any indication he would mash this season and with Frey mashing there was just no room for Larson to play other than maybe some mid-week appearances and late game PH.
Larson on his end would argue he just never was probably able to get in a flow because he was constantly on/off on the bench early on in the season and once Frey took over he rarely saw any playing time. Larson had a pretty solid freshman year so we know he can hit, he just couldnt quite get it figured out this season in advance of his spot being taken.
Now with Frey gone that opportunity is absolutely there for him to take but in the end I think he didnt like being seen as just a DH rather wants the shot to play the OF and I think Texas is promising him that.
Ultimately we will have good players transfer out of here and thats just the depth Jay has built, there are no promises you will play here even you might be able to start for the majority of SEC teams. I honestly expect Larson to have a pretty good year at Texas if he's given opportunity to bat full time. Texas lost Gasparino to the portal, Belyeu to the draft and another OF (Farmer) that started a lot this year lost his starting spot going into the postseason because he was hitting .250 with zero power. On top of that, they have Jonah Williams which will probably never be an every day starter there for the OF with his football obligations, which I doubt they just let him skip all of spring football practice to play baseball basically. So there's clearly a shot for Larson there in the OF.
Kling had his issues here, made sure he went somewhere to get a lot of playing time, and mashed this season. Just didnt have the guarantees he could work out enough playing time here but still ended up being a very good player.

Is this the player who visited Tenn. as well? If so, Jay beat Tony again.
Yes, he visited Tennessee last Friday I believe. Another huge recruiting win for Jay.

The NFL does this. They only have 53 spots. They start cutting after camp. The others remain on the practice squad. When these players started getting money like the NFL, they elevated the competition immensely.
MLB has minor leagues, but that is not the same as this.
It's a different game now. It is what it is now. I get it, it's not a perfect system. Hoping they find ways to better manage this in the future. Hell, it wasn't long ago players were getting drafted to the MLB before the season was even over. That change was much needed.

As of now I don’t see any Anderson or Eyanson type starters for next year. Nobody else has that type of dominance yet. So let’s pump the offseason brakes.
You knew Anderson would make that jump?

it was more widespread than that after the auburn series

Evans could absolutely be as good as Eyanson next year. Transfers Cooper Moore and Dax Dathe were the aces of their pitching staffs so either or both could be weekend starters. Schmidt could make a big jump.

Dax Dathe
Dathe is coming from DII bro, he isnt going to be a weekend starter here
He's got some good overall numbers but this was kind of a late add innings eater type. I doubt he will come in and provide 50+ innings or something crazy. He's just a super old dude (will be 25 next season) who has already not made it at 2 Division 1 stops along the way.

I agree with this entirely. Larson is a good player and will be a good player if allowed to get in a groove with regular playing time. Texas cleared out the OF with exception of Jonah Williams who will spend a lot of time with Football.
The SEC baseball landscape is a money ball game now. You buy the best roster you can put together which essentially ends up being an All Star/Pick-a-Player caliber team. To get onboard you have to be ok with platooning/match-ups, fighting for innings and sometimes young talent yielding to the paid/senior hired hand. It is what it is... The open checkbook era is underway and this portal season reflects that.
Old and Strong, beats Young and Weak :)

LSU has so many options they just need 2 to be that guy.
I'm interested to see how Deven Sheerin looks.
