I love it. This is literally how the Yankees won 4 World Series in the late 90's This is how Joe Torre built his lineups too.

For example...

1998 Yankees Batting Order

1. Chuck Knoblauch, 2B: 25 2B, .361 OBP, 117 Runs Scored
2. Derek Jeter, SS: Legend
3. Paul O'Neill, RF: Lefty with power that hit .372 OBP and cleaned up the bases with his 116 RBIs
4. Bernie Williams, CF: Led team with a .422 OBP and was able to do everything in any situation
5. Tino Martinez, 1B: No one wanted to pitch to him with Bases Loaded
6-9. Joe Torre used them the same exact way. He had Daryl Strawberry, Scott Brosius, Jorge Posada, Tim Raines, and Chili Davis

I am not a Yankees fan but you gotta love the fact that our HC is a student of the game that isn't afraid to use the same type of lineup that MLB Dynasty's used.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see a power bat in the 9 hole with this lineup

I went to several scrimmages and C. Doughty was the best hitter of fall practice. You don't have to take my word for it either...Jay said the same thing.

He was so damn comfortable at the plate. It he starts the season like he did in the fall lookout.

I feel with Berry being a switch hitter we will see Morgan/Crews/Berry against righties and Crews/Morgan/Berry against lefties

Cade is the most disciplined hitter on this team. Kid is fun to watch and he will benefit from having Morgan, Crews, Berry and Dugas hiding him in the lineup

at the risk of being called technologically limited, which interview has Jay Johnson on it? I scrolled through and did not see his name anywhere.

There was a link on page 1, and it worked last night. I only listened to a little bit. Now when I click the link, it seems to have been removed from the podcast list?

love it that he actually has thought about this and has a plan. I think that is different, and I like it already. I'm sure he will be making adjustments all year as players produce to his plan.

So basically CJJ has flipflopped the traditional 2 & 3 spots and the 4 & 5 spots.

Sounds like he's made for the 2 spot in this lineup from OP then if they feel like he's the best hitter entering the season.

This is the correct answer. Morgan has the best eye (maybe close with Berry-- I'm not sure) and is the primary doubles hitter (the other 4 will all hit as many homers as doubles). Crews is your best player. Berry is your best player as well but with less speed-- and he's a switch hitter so he will be batting left handed the majority of the time. Doughty and Dugas are similar but I like Doughty before Dugas because Doughty has slightly more contact, eye, speed, and doubles ability. Dugas is more homer-centric.

I would go ahead and pencil in McManus into the 6 hole as well personally, whether it be as the catcher or DH. I like Thompson in the 9 hole as the shortstop too.

7 & 8 hole should be a revolving door of a host of guys based on matchups or until someone claims a permanent spot based on performance.

The fact we can put those five names on a lineup card is good enough for me. Whatever damn order he wants. Though based on his preferencess I would agree with most its:
Morgan, Crews, Berry, Doughty, Dugas

I like the fact that the top 5 batters will essentially be the same players and in the same order.

If his leadoff guy hits one of those doubles he wants in the 9th inning of a close game, his best hitter in the 2 spot is going to get pitched around to set up a double play. Then his lefty in the 3 spot won't have a hole on the right side because with a runner on 2nd, they won't be holding the runner at first.
If you get 1st and 2nd with no outs, your 3rd guy is going to bunt them over. 2nd and 3rd with 1 out does the other team walk the 4 spot to set up the dp only to face the 5 spot with bases loaded?
