Props to Whitlock, he saw that there was no one in media taking up the "I have a black friend" role and he filled it nicely.

So. He’s you? Hey Jason.

This situation seems to break through political divides, as it seems you have a mix of people for or against what Angel Reese did, no matter the political ideology.

Which is why I disagree with Whitlock's article. His entire premise is "people are afraid to call Reese out because the liberal media will call them racist."

For one, like you said, this isn't divided among political lines. If it were, you'd be seeing a much clearer divide in terms of who's defending who.

Second, no one is shying away from calling what she did classless or disrespectful. Not even in the media.

Third, and this is the biggest thing, a majority of the people who ARE upset with Reese are only saying so because they're using it as a pathway to bash Kim. That's who the media hates. Go check Reddit or Twitter for a true liberal perspective on why this has blown up.

With all that said, it's just trash talk at the end of the day. Clark herself said she didn't care. If you play sports you know that it's part of the game. Why are we turning this into something it's not?

Whether you think the division is rooted more in race or gender, one thing I think we're learning is that race and gender wars aren't in lockstep with political wars, which is a pretty interesting data point.

Some good stuff in there especially in regards to Staley. Cancelling home and home series against BYU based on a fallacy was a joke.
quote:

Most of the establishment is overjoyed. They see the opportunity, attention, and cash the Iowa basketball star can bring to the women’s game. And then there’s the contingent of bigots, the people fearful that Clark’s ascension will diminish them.

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley and LSU center Angel Reese are the leaders of the latter group. They’re Fuzzy Zoeller. Tiger Woods triggered Zoeller.

…Caitlin Clark, a white basketball star dominating a black sport, triggered Staley and Reese.

… Staley deflected attention away from her coaching errors and Clark’s magnificent performance by complaining that unnamed reporters called South Carolina players thugs and monkeys. Staley framed Iowa coach Lisa Bluder’s harmless comment about a rebounding “bar fight” as racist.

I still don’t get the below in regards to why LSU (Morris in particular) felt disrespected by how Iowa chose to defend South Carolina.
quote:

LSU players picked up where Staley stopped. The Tigers claimed they were disrespected and upset about the way Iowa defended South Carolina. I’m not joking. The fact that Iowa sagged off South Carolina along the perimeter disrespected LSU.

That was offered as part of the justification for Reese stalking and taunting Clark at the conclusion of LSU’s victory in Sunday’s championship game.

quote:

Reese reminds me of college football stars Johnny Manziel and Baker Mayfield. The two Heisman Trophy winners were widely criticized for their on-field antics. No one called the criticism racist because Manziel and Mayfield are white. In America, it’s appropriate to criticize the poor behavior of white people. We rationalize and sometimes even celebrate the poor behavior of black people.

Of course Ryan Clark plays race card. I guess it’s better than doxing another high school female?
quote:

ESPN’s Ryan Clark pre-emptively played the card via Twitter.

“If you praised Caitlin Clark as competitive, fiery, and passionate for doing the ‘You can’t See me’ celebration and are criticizing Angel Reese for the same we already know!!”

Reese brought race into. She and morris both said Clark disrespected a SC player, who was black.

Reese also said she won this title for people who look like her.

I wonder if Kim is going to say the same shite and Shaq agree with her?

Did they say this, or did you add it in?

I don't really have a problem with that though. "I won this to prove to ghetto kids that they can succeed too" is what her statement boiled down to. Isn't that the message we want to push?

It's a very interesting take. It's hard for us Tiger fans to be objective, since we love Angel. I remember Larry Bird was a legendary trash talker, but he didn't do that at the end of the game. It was before and during the game. I can see Whitlock's points.

His article makes almost all of the points I've been trying to make all day, with the exception of the Tiger Woods and Fuzzy Zoeller comparison and how Reese was triggered by a white player having success. I saw that with Dawn, but just thought Angel to be overreacting to being criticized. Overall, I agree with pretty much all of it, and he might be 100% right. Better that it comes from a black man, than from us terrible white people who aren't allowed to speak on anyone who isn't 100% white.

The Outkick guy. Forget his name. But he sold out for clicks and money and there is no shock Whitlock has done the same. Now white people believe what he says, not realizing he doesn’t even believe it himself

Yeah, it's absurd that people act like they have to show black kids that they can succeed at basketball, be they "ghetto" or whatever term anyone wants to use. That's like saying rich people can have whatever they put their money to. White people are anomalies in basketball. We already know black kids can succeed at basketball, and other sports, or anything they are willing to work hard it, the same as anyone else. What does behaving poorly have to do with being good at something, I wonder? How is it setting a good example for success? "Just act like me, and you'll be good". Obviously Angel wouldn't say that, because she knows that's not what got her to be this good. So what exactly is she proving?

Clark’s antics in previous games (all year) caught up with her. But, in semi game to not cover player at 3 line and wave her hand at said player like “meh”, calls for payback and she got he. F him. I mean her
