He really, really needs to redshirt.
We will be losing no one at WR after this year, and with the way we distribute the ball through the air, he will likely not get many touches anyway.
I understand the concept of "if you can help us win, you will play" though..just would suck to have him practically waste a year like Shep did in his freshmen year.

Again, unless you actually believe that Jarvis Landry will be spending 5 years at LSU, then this "redshirt vs don't redshirt" argument is moot. Even if he only gets in on 3 plays all year, it will not have "wasted" a thing.
Guys like Patrick Peterson and Jarvis Landry do not stay in college for 5 years. Hell, Peterson stayed for only 3 years.

I actually like the verbiage on the report.
"Could be out up to 4 weeks." That doesn't sound serious at all.

Exactly..if they aren't staying they don't need to redshirt. Play the best you can now and play em while you have em.

I had a bunch of stress fractures in the past. You get um from
running too much normally. They get worse if you don't get off your feet for a few weeks, but anyone could push through the pain and play if its absolutely necessary.

You do realize how short he is right? He isnt exactly oozing nfl size. What makes you believe he will be a high enough pick to leave early? Quit comparing him to Peterson who is a physical freak, landry is not. Its not like the nfl is snatching up small wrs without blazing speed in the first round everyday.
Dont get me wrong I believe he will be a stud COLLEGE wr, but he isnt some amazing nfl prospect like up make it sound.

Unless Jarvis grows 3 inches and puts on 30lbs he's not going anywhere early.
eta: You think pretty highly of a kid that's never taken a snap beyond the HS level.

Let's get as negative as we possibly can with this.

Not a bunch but I have had them also. Cortisone and a tight wrap and he could play tomorrow.
This is an issue of little to no consequence.

lsu777 and lsudm21,
So, are you guys actually suggesting that Landry is likely to go through a growth-spurt between 2014 and 2015 to where his draft status would suddenly improve after a 5th year at LSU???
Now, that is some funny shite right there...

No but what in the hell its the point of leaving early if your not even gonna be atleast a second round pick?

Wow, your reading comprehension is the suck brah. Look, I love Jarvis and I think he will be a great collegiate WR. But saying he'll leave early before he's actually stepped on the filed under the bright lights is retarded at best. Dude is 5'10 175lbs. I'm sure the NFL is drooling over him right now.

I like Landry a lot - but it is too soon to compare him to a guy who went top ten in the NFL draft

Again, what could Landry (or Anthony Johnson, or La'El Collins) possibly gain by spending a 5th year in college??? Their love of the college lifestyle???
These kinds of players are going to be as attractive (or unappealing as the case may be) as they are ever going to be after 4 years. It is inconceivable that Landry is going to gain "polish" (making him ahigher draft choice) by spending a 5th year at LSU.
Why waste a 5th year as an amateur when you could already start raking in some real cash in the NFL??? After all, that's a year of earning you can never recoup.

Le'El and Freak have the potential to be top 10 picks. When's the last time a 5'10 WR went in the first round? Hell, Josh Reed was the best WR in the country in '01 and he still didn't go till the 2nd.

I think he was meaning JL as Jarvis Landry.
I know, I was kidding. I think it's funny how some on here have just switched JL to Jarvis Landry seamlessly when it's been used as Jarrett Lee for the past several years and the kid is still on the team. Context made it pretty obvious in this case.

dm21,
You are not paying attention. It does not matter where Landry is projected to get drafted. It's going to be the same in 2014 or 2015 - agreed???
Jeez, how difficult is this concept?
Therefore, what could he possibly gain by spending a 5th year at LSU??? Why not start getting paid for your efforts (even if it is just 2nd round money???).
++++++++++++++
Let's say I could graduate LSU in 4 years with an engineering degree, and my earning potential would be $75,000 a year. Now, someone tells me that I could instead choose to stay for a 5th year at LSU, but when I leave school after that extra year, my earning power would still be the exact same $75,000 a year.
In this scenario, why in the world would I ever consider staying for that extra year??? IMO, it's time to get on with my life; and start reaping the (financial) benefits of all my hard work.

Well, it's pretty tough to see 5 years down the road but how do we know he won't need that 5th year to even get drafted? You're making an awfully big assumption for a kid that hasn't touched the field yet.
