He needs to get pissed off with his bat, not just have a civil convo with it.
It seems concerning to me when players start having convo's with their equipment. He is searching for any answer to put bat on ball.
What was it in Major League that got Jobu and his bat going the right direction? Jones needs to try whatever it was, lol.

Will he ever be able to hit off speed pitches?

Nope.
There was a period of time earlier during the season Jones seemed more patient at the plate and was more concerned with making contact than hitting over the fence. His BA and RBI were rising. What happened to that Jones?

Y’all do realize when the pitching gets better, that this is what that looks like, right?

The silver lining is that the team can still find a way to win with some of its top batters being in a slump.

Is the pitching getting better or is there more data on the hitter (or combo of both)? Because Curiel is slumping too but Brown and Frey seem to be hot right now. There is a lot more hitting data on Jones and Curiel than Brown and Frey right now.

Brown and Frey are great examples
Go look at their splits
Voila
Curiel and Jones are facing both sides more often

Oh boy. You said something bad about an lsu player. Prepare for wild gnashing of teeth.

So many people in here saying Jones can't hit SEC pitching. If that were really the problem, I'd be much less concerned about his play. I could just chalk it up to him not being talented enough, and move on.
But this guy did a lot of work against the SEC a year ago, and hit a ton of home runs down the stretch, in SEC play, and in the regional. So there is no question in my mind he has the ability. The problem is his approach is really bad right now. He's over aggressive early in at bats, and then when it's time to protect the plate, he looks like he's hoping for a ball, rather than being ready to hit. And when he swings, he's constantly over-swinging, and tries too hard to hit everything the other way. It's great to be able to go the other way when they pitch you away, but he's taking balls that are in and trying to muscle it the other way, which usually ends in a pop out.
He's just all over the place, and never looks relaxed. last year, he looked relaxed and confident, and while he struck out plenty, he wasn't missing mistakes. Right now, he's missing the mistakes, as well as swinging at pitches out of the zone, or taking them down the middle because he's guessing wrong. It's mental, not physical with him. He just needs to somehow get his mind right, and be the guy he was a year ago. That's easier said than done.
It's not hard to live with some strikeouts, if you consistently do damage when you get good pitches to hit, which he has had plenty of those opportunities.

It would do wonders for him if he wasn’t swinging at the first pitch every time up.
Dude loves going down 0-2 early.

The most bizarre stat ive ever heard is that JJ hasnt walked on the road this season. It feels fake.

Curiel's splits against LHP are about as bad as Brown's are.

it seems impossible unless you watch the games.
SEC Umps be umping everywhere but BR apparently

Yes, but his ABs vs LHP are going to be far greater
IDK the stats off the top of my head, haven’t even seen them, but Curiel and Jones have faced SEC pitching regardless of arm side
Brown and Frey have platooned more. Much more if I’m not mistaken by memory

He started seeing 95 plus all the time and sliders that look like strikes.

But....he'll let two right down the middle go by....then try to 'tee off' on one down at shoe lace high!! DUH

Without Jones we might be Number 1, Oh yea we are!
Posted on 5/13/25 at 12:19 pm to tsmi136
The fact that we could weather the storm with the struggles at the top of the lineup (Curiel and Jones) and still take 2/3 over a top 3 team is a great sign

In 15 home games, he has 61 ABs, 10 walks, 2 HBP, 13 hits, 3 HR, 12 RBIs, and 25 Ks. That's a .231 avg, .341 OBP, and .393 SLG.
In 12 away games, he has 55 ABs, 0 walks, 1 HBP, 15 hits, 1 HR, 8 RBIs, and 18 Ks. That's a .273 avg, .286 OBP, and .382 SLG.
His two best hitting games were @ Texas and @ Oklahoma. He was 11/29 in those two games with 5 RBI but he did have 8 Ks. But no walks
