I just saw that play flash across a screen talking about draft prospects, and it occurred to me that that play is one of the singular most important plays in LSU FB history and perhaps even underrated in the sheer spectacular nature of it. Is that simply recency bias on my part (as a disclaimer, I’m old and my LSU football consciousness goes back to the mid 70’s) that places this play squarely on LSU’s Mount Rushmore of individual plays? Doesn’t hurt that it happened against the team that is historically LSU’s greatest foil in the sport going back to around 1964 when this series tipped squarely in favor of the evil red tide.

I feel like that game had a bunch of plays I will never forget

- Obviously the Chase catch that made Diggs look like he should be a bench warmer is up there

- The Moss toe tap on the sidelines near the goal line

- CEH's shoestring catch on 3rd and 10 for a first down when the game was starting to slip away

- CEH's spin move for a TD

Just to name a few

People creating Mt Rushmores of things makes me angry because they do it as the four best things.

The Presidents on Mt Rushmore weren't picked because they're the four best. They were picked because of their specific roles in American history.

Washington was the father of the country, Jefferson wrote the declaration of independence, Lincoln preserved the union, and Teddy created the national park system.

The shite eating grin I had over this play lasted about a week.

That Chase TD was so monumental because you could just tell shite was different. Alabama wasn’t going to bully us that year. We finally had a QB and offensive system that gave Saban fits.

It was the play in the last decade+ of the series that had to make Bama say, "oh, $$&%".

Almost like those big accomplishments made them great or something.

Washington and Jefferson were good Presidents but Presidential greatness had nothing to do with the selections

The TD right before half after Queen's interception...33-13 at half! I walked to the concession area and all the Tide fans were stunned. The outnumbered LSU fans were glancing at each other with shite-eating grins!

It really hit me when it was played during the "You got Mossed" segment and Randy fricking Moss was dancing around on national TV and saying "Geaux Tigers"

Also, I forgot to mention the Tua fumble on the opening drive. When that happened is when I thought things might be different this year. Because that first drive they went down the field effortlessly and then Tua just dropped the ball without even being touched

This X1000.

The game started with such a "goddamit, Bama is just going to traipse down the field and win" vibe - but then Tua miraculously fumbled. And then just a few plays later, this Chase TD. I was in that stadium and I was in shock.

I was the most stunned of all. When Clyde caught the pass, I remember our group just silently staring at each other. I almost literally did not believe it.

The look on the bama fans face after that catch was telling. They knew it was different that year.

And every LSU fan in the buliding knew it was gona be a 60 min dog fight.

Top Plays in LSU history

Cannon’s Punt Return vs Ole Miss
The Earthquake TD
Spear’s pick 6 vs OU.
Flynn to Byrd vs Auburn
Then from the 2019
Season alone:

Chase’s TD vs Alabama
CEH over the top VS Alabama
The 3rd and along TDs vs Texas
Chase’s TD against Clemson: not an insane play, but it was when I started To breath again.

I think because we had been shutout twice in the last three games up until that 2019 game, and we go out and torch them immediately. The feeling was unreal
