But as part of getting the job, someone from LSU made him make an outside OC hire to appease the fans. He was never on board with Canada from the start.

Ensminger may do great or he may flop. But I'm willing to give him a chance.

I mean O sold himself around hiring the best coordinators...no one forced Canada upon him, they mandated an outside hire. O chose wrong, people need to stop letting him off the hook for this and pretending its a good thing he had the "smarts" to fire him. They went through candidates and O clearly hired a guy who's offense he didn't understand....that isn't good any way you try and shape it.

O was the one who promised to bring in elite coordinators. when kiffin fell through he went in to panic mode and hired the hot name at the time. quit making excuses for him.

No, O took Kiffin's bait hook, line, and sinker. The only idiot in this whole ordeal bigger than O was, unfortunately, the man that hired him.

I think in O's mind, he did what he had to do to get the job. Now that he has it, he's putting an OC in place he thought all along was the right man for the job.

It doesn't excuse him from selling a bill of goods to get hired. I'm just trying to explain what happened (as I see it).

I don't know if that's 100% correct. O politicked his arse off to get the LSU job. He did and said whatever he had to say or do to get the job because he knew him getting the job was likely a longshot.

Why was Les fired in 2016? He refused to change the offense. What was the first thing O did upon getting the interim gig? Fire the OC to appease the fans/boosters/decision makers that had just fired Les.

Fans/boosters/decision makers thought the special teams sucked. So O fires Peveto immediately.

Practice too long and physical? Now they are shorter and less physical.

Old players not welcome? Now come lead the team down the hill.

Media largely restricted? Welcome in reporters. Watch everything you want to watch.

O had to sell Alleva on giving him the job. That sales pitch included Kiffin as OC. Once that fell through, O ABSOLUTELY could not hire Ensminger. He HAD to deliver on his promise to hire the "best OC". So he hired the "best OC" that would both come to LSU AND appease the fans.

I don't think anyone from LSU "made" him hire Canada. But it's not exactly a great look when you name a guy OC who was on the offensive staff that was the "problem" after getting the job largely based on a claim that you would hire the BEST OC POSSIBLE. Had he simply named Ensminger the OC it would have proved beyond a doubt that his entire sales pitch was complete bullshite just to get the job

For whatever reason Canada flamed out. So O probably now figures "if I'm going down. I may as well go down with someone I know and trust, rather than lose my last shot as an HC because of a guy I don't even know."

Nobody at LSU made O do anything.

But when our idiot AD found out the guy he hired couldn’t deliver what he promised as part of getting the job, he panicked and reacted like he always does to appease the fans. He didn’t know what the hell he was getting with Canada from the start and yet hired him because he is an insecure bush league PE coach pretending to be the public face of a multimillion dollar major university athletic program and desperate to never go back to the paycheck he had before winning the Alleva Powerball.

First, I don't beleive this for a moment, but
Second, if true, and O told people this, he would have never gotten the HC job.

If you don’t trust the HC to pick his own staff, guess what Alleva, you hired the wrong guy.

O screwed up hiring Canada and quickly fixed it by hiring the guy he wanted...I'm cool with that.

Excellent post. O did it like a politician. Everything the last guy did, just promise the opposite. Never mind that he’s never done anything successfully as the permanent guy. And our fans ate it up.

BINGO!

I was completely against O being coach! But I'm an LSU fan and want them to STOMP every team the play. Every day I'm getting more excited about season! However, this is a brutal schedule. The only thing i'm not looking forward to are the O pumpers sayng "told ya" when the offense puts up 500yrds against SE and LTech.

I'll answer that after I see the team play a few games. You know for sure that Steve will fail this season?

Agree with all of this. O was an effective salesman during that entire process. But I'm not sure it was as "slimy" as tRant makes it out to be - if it was, how do you explain reputable, solid guys like Moffitt and Aranda sticking by him?

Other than the brutal 2018 schedule, why are you assuming we're "going down"? Recruiting is going well, we kept Aranda away from Aggie, we've rebuilt our depth in the trenches, and we picked up a key QB transfer. Look, I was as disgusted with "the search" as anyone, but here we are. Can't we see a few games in 2018 before getting so negative?
