WTF?

I didn't hang out with Saban. As long as he doesn't commit a crime or do something to embarrass the university like Petrino, I don't give a shite what he does when he's not coaching the team.

He screwed LSU over six ways from Sunday the way he left us in 2004, and LSU fans continue to slather his knob.

Some of us are intelligent enough to see that LSU's best chance of maximizing its potential is not under Les Miles. Look at the NFL players that have passed through here in the last five years and then look at the on-field results, it is baffling. LSU's best chance of future success is not under Miles, it really is that simple.

In reality it is all Saban's fault. The lapdogs around here bow down to this man as if he is some kind of god but he is just another football coach (this is part of why we lose every year- STOP PUTTING HIM ON A PEDESTAL). When Saban left Miles realized his opportunity to ride on the coattails of his success. How could he possibly resist the rich amount of talent available in Louisiana along with the potential to grab another NC relatively easily. Over time he has built up his staff to include his drinking buddies who are getting in on the scam as well. And then we have the clueless Alleva administration who won't/can't do anything about this group of crooks, along with another CROOK (bobby jindal) keeping the Les ponzi scheme going.

but the fact is that Saban did not win any more than Miles did when he was at LSU. he's done his winning at bama.

using Saban as the benchmark for what Miles should do really means that NO coach will ever be liked at LSU.

i'm just as upset about this team as most of you but some of you are just crybabies that don't know very much about football.

ahh. the new mantra. when someone disagrees with you just throw that out there so others will think they are left wing nut cases.

did you think that up all by yourself? or are you a mindless dolt that repeats what others say? or did you just see it on a commercial and repeat it?

Stoops also doesn't have the best, or one of the best recruiting situations IN THE COUNTRY.

I don't even the Oklahoma pays anywhere close to what we do on assistant coaches.

That is precisely why Saban works so well at Bama. They love abusive coaches. Watch how Bama fans react when he goes after a reporter asking a completely reasonable question (like the Kirby Smart "Coke bottle" question last week). After all, they made a best seller out of a book about how Bryant almost killed his first team at A&M.

A lot of Les' problems come from a completely unsuccessful 2012 recruiting class. That year was a recognized poor recruiting class inside Louisiana at the time. It was also the year we had a QB abandon us by simply not showing up when he was supposed to as an early enrollee. We had the smallest senior class in the SEC this year, and were a team that was dominated by sophomores.

It is reasonable to hope that this down-cycle bottomed out in 2014, at least record-wise.

We can never know what happens in the alternate universe. Whenever a team is considering whether it will lose a coach, there are only four possible outcomes: improve with current coach; decline with current coach; improve with new coach and decline with new coach. We can guess which will happen, but nobody can really tell the future.

What disturbs me the most is that the administration's infighting have made it harder for the coach they decided to keep to do his job, as we are now seeing with recruiting. It also doesn't help that too many, especially around here, are more than happy to make the damage worse.

This team can improve next year with Miles as coach. I prefer to hope that this happens than to curse even the possibility.

I believe that the team will be improved next season.

But that doesn't change the fact that Coach Miles's teams very often play like a football team that is poorly coached.
This is not a "knee-jerk" observation, but, rather, it is an observation that many have commented on for some years now.

Your OP is couched in terms of "love" and "hate", i.e. FEELINGS. My opinion WRT Coach Miles is not based on any emotion whatsoever.

If you agree that emotion should not be a component of our process of observation, analysis and conclusion, then I will certainly agree with you. I'll take your word for it if you say there are Miles-haters, and I agree that they are wrong to make emotion a part of their process of critical analysis.

You are a good poster all over these boards and I often find your comments insightful and valuable.

The namecalling and antagonizing from the extreme posis do the same thing. Works both ways. That's why extremes on both sides are the worst.

I agree with those whom have suggested that, because recruiting season approaches, we should consider curtailment of "over the top" criticism of the program, coaches and players.

I expect LSU to win the bowl game, so, things should be fairly upbeat around here for some time after that. IMHO, Texas Tech can't stop LSU's power run game and the LSU pass defense will perform well enough to win.
