Is Woodward waiting for the right number of losses?

I know a lot of people were hoping that Orgeron would have been fired Sunday. Rightfully so as LSU is currently nestled in the sewer of the SEC West.

Local radio personalities, like Matt Mascona, have said that an 8-4 record was extremely iffy and 7-5 was a sure firing. It makes sense.

However, we're currently sitting at 3-3 (1-2 SEC). Although it is pretty much inconceivable that we'll make a magical run, currently, Orgeron hasn't hit that "right number" yet - either 4 or 5 losses. We'll get there in time.

Is that what Woodward is waiting for? Is it too premature to fire Orgeron now? Do we not have the right guy locked in yet? You could argue that the longer we wait, the more competition we'll face with a coaching hire (USC, etc.)

Woody doesnt move on midseason. Not his MO. He might change that with O, but that would be abnormal.

Nothing will happen until at least after the Bama game. Most likely is that O finishes the season no matter how much bitch, pissing and moaning the rant does!

Oh, well if that trusted radio personality Matt Moscona said it...

There are a whole lot more moving pieces for firing a coach midseason than W-L. Availability of interim, recruiting, etc.

He's more connected than I am, fwiw. He's a Baton Rouge guy whose whole job is centered around LSU athletics. Seems plausible.

I fully expect Ed O to be let go the day after the last game.

Do we not have a guy who can fill in as interim coach? That says a lot about the staff's makeup right there. I also understand recruiting, but these recruits know Orgeron isn't going to be at LSU next year.

He’s waiting because it’s dumb to fire a coach 6 games into a season with no clear backup plan. People in charge of multi-million dollar companies don’t react in the same knee jerk fashion as casual sports fans typing on message boards from their toilet.

No. He is waiting for his candidate to be fully available to take the LSU job on day one of the announcement.

He’s waiting for Napier to call him and accept the job that hasn’t been offered

I think he's just going to let him finish out the season unless Ed does something truly catastrophic off the field.

It's already a forgone conclusion that he's getting fired. There's not a steady hand on the staff that you can really trust as the interim. And it probably gives Woodward more cover to do work finding the replacement behind the scenes if the public speculation is about *when* Ed O gets fired instead of who's going to replace him.

He's gotta know this is basically his career defining decision. No need to satisfy the fanbase short term if it runs the risk of creating bigger complications later. Imagine the team rallying around Mickey and asking for him to take over long term or Ed O unloading dirt in the press or message boards tracking flights mid-season.

I don't think there's any scenario where we hire the permanent guy mid-season, so deciding when to fire Orgeron is purely an optics decision imo.

With the Ricks decision it just makes things even worse. Players are done and don’t want to go all out now unless they have a playoff chance. That is on the culture of the program set by the coach. If Woodward let’s this continue until the end of the year it will only get worse.

I don’t know that Orgeron is even capable of recruiting for us anymore now that the entire nation knows he is gonna be fired. So why wait? Why let him continue to degrade the program?

Going 4 and 8 is pretty atypical. He is going to can him Monday morning, after UF sets rushing records.
