They aren't gonna let one conference have the majority of playoff spots so you're looking at 3 SEC spots total most years. Maybe a 4th team in particularly strong SEC years but I don't think that will be very often.

While I agree with the overall sentiment of your entire post, I think the SEC is going to get 4 teams in most years. There should be 4 10-2 teams or better most years. It depends on how they value a 1-loss Big 12 team to a 2-loss SEC team and/or a 2-loss Big 10 team. And I just don’t think the Big 12 is currently enough to get the benefit of the doubt. Maybe some years. I could see 4+4+2+1+1

Georgia, Bama, LSU, Texas
Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Oregon
Clemson, Florida State
Utah
Liberty

Or maybe switch Clemson for TCU. Or take one away from the Big 10, whatever. For the SEC to only have 3 teams, I think that’d mean the Big 10 would have to have 4 or they both have 3 and the Big 12 or ACC would have 3 (and the other 2). It may happen down the line, but I just can’t see the SEC not having the most representatives the way the current landscape looks.

Every year from here on is a bust if we don’t make the 12 team playoff.

In a 12 team format, any year we don't make the playoff is a bust.

There will be a lot of opt outs for playoffs. That’s too many extra games for a first rounder. Would be dumb to take the risk.

Yes and I think we need to win at least one playoff game. Just really hoping we get the chance to play in Tiger Stadium.

I'm optimistic. I expect LSU to make the playoffs. It would definitely be a disappointment if LSU does not make the playoffs, but I'm not sure if I'd say a bust because we project as a 10-14 team due to a few unprovens.

I'm with you. Like others have said, the preseason predictions from analysts have kind of been all over the map. That's typical of a team that still has questions to answer. And as you pointed out, while there are plenty of reasons for optimism, the OL appears to be the only certainty.

A true bust to me would be one of the teams in the preseason top-5 getting upset a few times and missing out. That's not us right now.

With an adult in charge and the resources and built in advantages this program has, we should NEVER finish a season with a single digit in the W column.

Remember, we play 13 games including the bowl. It's coaching malpractice at LSU to have 4 or more losses in a season.

We should also make the playoffs a MINIMUM of 80% of the time. There are 12 playoff teams now, there will be 14 soon, then it'll grow from there.

This is arguably the best job in cf. It made Nick Saban's career, and drew BK from almighty ND. There are gonna be some people who are ok with just being ok that will think these expectations are too ambitious. bullshite. This is LSU, not ole piss.

Less than 10 regular season wins is a bust.

I'm expecting a December playoff game in Tiger Stadium this year. 8th seed is not impossible.

Moving forward any year not in the playoff will be considered a bad year. New nature of college football

I'm going to say most years would be a bust if you do t make the playoffs. This is definitely one of those years.

Plenty of talent to be top 12

That’s not exactly what he said, but hell, we “competed” for a championship his 1st year. I remember very clearly we played Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. Some of you seem to think the word “compete” really means “win.”

And going by some arbitrary year without any context is stupid. What if USC wins the Big 10? What if OU goes undefeated and wins the SEC? We don’t know how good the teams on our schedule are actually gonna be. I guarantee Bama fans would have said their ‘19 season would be a failure if they didn’t win the NC. And they didn’t even make the playoffs. Nobody saw Burrow and co. coming.

And what if (God forbid, knock on all the wood), Nuss goes down with a knee in the 1st series against USC like Masson did against FSU? 9-3 with Rickie Collins leading our team is a failure?

There are more than a few morons here who think just because BK said something about year 3 means it MUST be true...or else.

Like you said, LSU went from two straight seasons of under .500 football (the worst two year stretch in nearly 30 years) to a spot where if they would have beaten A&M at the end of 2022, LSU would have LITERALLY been playing UGA for a spot in the playoffs. LSU was #5 in CFP poll before the A&M game...with OSU ranked ahead of them having already lost that day and not going to the Big 10 Championship game.

So if "competing for a championship" is the standard, LSU was there at the end of year 1...they just lost the games to move forward towards that goal.

I don't know that this is a playoff team until I see defensive improvement

no. Unproven defense might keep us out of playoffs. But 9-3 would not be a bust but will also keep us out of playoffs.

I concur. A down year by our standards should be making the playoffs as a 10-12 seed.
If people don't understand, which many of you seem to not be by thinking this way, making the 12th seed would mean finishing no less than 12th at the end of the regular season every single year. We do not play in the ACC. We could legit get a year where we have to play Bama, UGA, Texas, Oklahoma, and an improving Tennessee and Auburn. Let alone what crazy first game opponent LSU schedules itself. Saying even on a down year we should finish 10-2 is crazy considering, THAT HAS NEVER BEEN THE NORM EVER AT LSU.

A down year should be 8-4/9-3. These schedules will ensure you play every team twice in 4 years, so thank God in 2026 when we play UGA, we'll have a loaded roster. With what Hugh Freeze has done in the past and what he is doing in recruiting now, same with Tennessee, there will be a shite ton of loaded teams in the immediate future. What if Florida fires Napier and gets Lane Kiffin? Have you seen DJ Lagway? Do you know what Kiffin could do with Florida talent? He already has the transfer portal thing down, what if he can now stack elite Florida talent on a yearly basis too?

So many of you have a micro view on CFB in general. So many of you have tunnel vision for LSU and don't pay attention to things on the horizon for even the SEC.

I don't think this is a down year. Actually, i think the whole country is sleeping heavy on the potential of LSU, and thanks to the way the schedule is set up, if we get through USC with a win. and it's not some crazy end of game heart attack finish, the rest of the way should be a 2 loss AT MOST season. Next year will likely be a rebuilding type of year and hopefully Nuss has done enough to leave after 2024 and Underwood develops in 2025 to prepare for a 2026 and 2027 back to back NC run.

Depends upon your definition of "competing".

Outside of 2019, 2022 was the highest LSU had been ranked in the CFP poll heading into the final week of the regular season since the beginning of the CFP. I'd say relative to the rest of college football that season LSU was "competing" for a championship going into the final week of that season. A win over A&M would have put them, at worst, #5 going into the SECCG vs. #1 Georgia. A win there puts SEC champ LSU in the Playoff.

So yes, while LSU ultimately lost those games, it's reasonable to say there were "competing" for a championship at the end of that season
