Start by winning 60% or more of 3rd downs.

what numbers WOULD justify House's firing, in your opinion?
I don't think statistics are enough to fire someone.

Statistics are like a bikini, what they reveal is interesting but what they conceal is essential.

I think our defensive position coaches are as culpable as House for the overall performance of this defense. We also lack depth and experience in key positions.

I just find it juvenile to ignorantly call for a single coach's head when there's so many levels to the dismal performance of this defense.

Just like everyone was calling for Denbrock's head last year, had we fired him, we wouldn't be witnessing JD's potential record setting season this year.

Some of you have a disposable mindset and are too quick to get rid of coaches because of your skewed perception.

Let the season play out and stop being a pussy.

Run the table, beat Georgia in the SEC Championship and at least make a good showing in the play-offs. Anything less, he should be gone.

Hold every team left on our schedule to less than 300 total yards of offense. LSU will have a chance to win all our games in that happens. If he can't manage that low bar, then he needs to be on the highway at end of season.

Play aggressively for sacks and turnovers. You're going to get beat at some point anyway, get the guys fired up instead of demoralized in soft zone.

But considering the fact that BK is letting House pick all his assistants, we will just get a staff full of nobodies again next year.

People here keep saying that, but Steeples pretty obviously got the job because of Cain and that was before House was definitely taking the job. Even if House signed off while still in his NFL job, he definitely didn’t select him.

Now, House also hasn’t gotten rid of him to bring in his own guy, but I think getting at least a season with the patchwork secondary was understood, and they actually did show improvement last season.

The issue with House isn’t that his scheme is bad or can’t work. It worked just fine in the SEC when he was at UK. The problem is that it’s just not a good fit for college football today. Zone-heavy schemes tend to be complex to fully implement, which is already difficult with the limitations on practice time in college. Add in the turnover we have experienced on defense and how many young players we have to roll out there and it’s just not working. In that situation, DCs usually have to simplify and simple zone defense is too easy for good QBs to read. You have to be able to disguise and bring pressure from different areas for it to work.

At UK, House had a stable situation with a lot of guys who were staying for 4 years and learning his system cold. That was also before the portal became the easy escape route that it is today, coupled with NIL and rampant tampering. Even once our roster situation stabilizes more, I’m not sure we can depend on House’s scheme to be the answer consistently. Hopefully he heads back to the NFL and Kelly find someone who run a more aggressive, college-friendly defense to take his place.

I’ve only seen one college coach who relies as much as House does on zone defense and is consistently very successful at it, and that’s Barry Odom. He must be an excellent teacher and very good at adjusting to his personnel.

Dropper: even though I disagreed with a lot of your post, I was impressed that it was logical and straightforward.

Then you went and ruined it with another ad hominem attack with the very last word.

Not field the 112 ranked total defense in all
Of college football!!! With enough talent to be at least top 50 with the dline potential and perkbackers

I think he's a good coach, but it's just not a good fit for what we need right now!

Send pressure 99.8% of snaps. This is the reason our D looked somewhat competent towards the end of the second half last week. He finally saw that our front 4 weren’t even getting within spitting distance of the QB, leaving him enough time to basically pick his preferred target. Looked like a whole different QB when we started to send pressure and flash in his face.

And D was fortunate with all the drops by Missouri, that would have been some big gains. Numbers would have been a lot worse if not for some lucky breaks they got.

Everyone will say that the answer is “no” but that is bullshite. Winning cures everything in football. If the defense suddenly starts having great games statistically and is the reason we win one or two high-profile games, all will be forgotten.

I always forget that we have a safeties coach. Wtf does Kerry Cooks do? He doesn’t recruit for shite, and our safeties look lost.

1) he could get this defense to show some improvement down the stretch.

2) I may be in the minority here but I would like House to get one more year as DC. He was good in 2022 and whether it be personnel issues or coaching instability (DL coach thing) or whatever it is, it hasn't been good in 2023. I'd like to give him one more year (given the defense doesn't somehow get worse this year) to see which year was the exception and which year was the rule.

Now if BK decides to go another way at DC in the offseason, I will be all for it but I'd also support House if he is retained and there is some movement with the assistant coaches.
