Is the “SEC is best” narrative fading with NIL?

Legitimate question. Aside from Texas and TA&M, there are several big time programs around the country that could find more money in their sofa cushions than most SEC teams have in total. Unless some type of framework or a cap gets put in place, the Ohio States, Michigans, Penn States and even USCs of the world would seem to have an edge (of course, they would need the right coaching).

Certainly possibly. The Big 10 is the best conference this year. I’m not really sure it’s a money thing though.

Considering the SEC was paying money before NIL existed, at least much more than other conferences… Yes, it is fading

Still the best conference... the conference just canabilzed itself out of at least two extra playoff spots.

Yep. They just said Duke had a QB coming in next year that got an $8MM NIL deal. This shite is going to get wild before it gets reformed.

This is such a prisoner of the moment comment. We won't win every year. If the SEC was fading, we wouldn't have had 7 of the top 10 recruiting classes.

It’s not the NIL, it’s the portal. These teams that could stack 2-3 deep can’t do it anymore. The backup qb didn’t lose that game for Georgia, the lines did. That’s why you’re seeing more parity, that’s why you’re not going to see the Bama/Georgia runs anymore. It’s all about going year to year, trying to catch lightning in a bottle.

I think the main issue was it was a down year for most of the conference at the QB position. Who were the best 5 QBs in the SEC compare it to last year and the year before that. Do we have 1 QB going in the first 3 rounds?

SEC is 8-6 in bowl games in a bad year. The league is fine.

Nope once it catches up the SEC DOMINANCE WILL CONTINUE! Just because we have some teams in the playoffs that won a few games against bad teams that should have been in and you know who they are! The 4 team playoff was the way teams play shite schedules and think they are worthy the sec is still the best conference look at the parody ! It’s hard to win in the sec on the road ! Look at ole miss you can’t tell me they were not one of the best teams in the country and yet they have to be punished for playing in the best conference in America! Yall overthink these playoff teams that play a shitty schedule and get in get a chance to win one game! Don’t have to play anyone on there schedule that’s worth a damn ! Give OHS 12 sec games give nd 12 sec games see what happens it means more down here ! The sec has been the best league for years and will continue to be !

Might be 2 Big10 teams in NCG. Last year it was a BIg10 team plus a soon-to-be Big10 team (Washington).

Maybe the Big10 has been better than the SEC in 2023 and 2024.

Legitimate question.

No. It's fading when the greatest coach of all time retires and there is no team in the league that doesn't have some type of weakness. It's with every conference though. Ohio State is probably the only team that looks like they are a good bit better than everyone else when they are hitting on all cylinders.

Kind of like nfl who needs to build a team every year but even harder bc you can’t lock down your nucleus for 2-3 years

I think it has more to do with the portal than NIL. Teams can't stockpile talent like they used to, and the constant roster churn will cause holes. “Everybody paying players now!!!” sounds good on Twitter.

SEC got three teams in. One is in the semis, one lost on the road to the team who is going to win it all, and the other lost a fluky game with a qb starting their first game.

If Tenner got to host SMU and play Boise they'd be in the same position as Penn State.
