Now would be a good time for CBK to take a nfl job.

Not anymore

The Hoosiers’ 60-year-old coach was rewarded on Saturday for the first 10-0 mark in school history with an eight-year contract that will run through 2032 and pays him an annual average salary of $8 million plus a $1 million annual retention bonus.

Yeah I prefer from now on to hire a up and coming coordinator that’s hungry and don’t pay him that much until he proves himself. That way if he sucks you can easily fire him and start over. Scott spends like a drunken sailor and puts the program in a bind. Now we are stuck with Kelly for a little long long time.

Who else would have hired Ed in 2017? I’m not saying pay them nothing but just not 10 year deals.

go back and look at headlines from late in the ‘21 season.
guys were getting 10 year deals at over 8mil plus all over the place (Mel Tucker and Lincoln Riley for examples).

that was the market rate.
so that’s what it was going to cost.

you offer 5-6 years with a low buyout when the rest of the country is offering 10 years guaranteed, you’re getting scraps and have to pray you hit on some young unproven guy.

Probably not with inflation and all... He better retain the rest of the signing class and ALL the Louisiana kids we have on board if he wants to save his job

Unless the bottom is going to fall out completely, like back to the 90s bad, it would be foolish to buy out any coach when that money could go toward buying a bunch of players. You could get a half dozen superstars for $9M/yr. The opportunity cost of keeping the coach has to be astronomical for it ever to make sense.

Remember, whenever we talk about firing a coach, there are 3 different costs:

1. You have to pay the buyout
2. You have to pay for a whole new coaching staff
3. You can’t pay for players with the money spent on (1) and (2)

The situation has to be thermonuclear

LSU is still paying Coach O over a million dollars.
Pretty sure Orgeron was given a $17 million buyout that covered the remainder on 2021 and 2022. I haven't read where we spread those payments out over additional years.

Hate to say it and he is gonna be around for at least 3 to 4 more years minimum you were dreaming if you think LSU would get rid of them after next year or even

One year? CBK will be "around" through AT LEAST December of 2026. My
opinion is that Kelly will be around a lot longer than just 2 more years.

Unless he seriously turns things around there’s no way he lasts longer than two more seasons

By your logic we should throw the 9 mil it would take to buy him out and pay Bryce…

What’s wrong with Brian Kelly? Y’all canned two national championship coaches. Give the man a chance. He’s FAMMMLY

I don't recall where I read this, though it's probably not hard to find, but I read the other day that LSU finishes its monthly installment payments on O's buyout in December 2025.
