Shut up, moron Who you play matters. We played Oregon and West Virginia ooc, plus had the SEC championship game. Who did Bama play?

If you compare how both teams performed vs the same opponents, you get:

Arkansas
Ala gave up 14 (home)
LSU gave up 17 (home)

Auburn
Ala gave up 14 (away)
LSU gave up 10 (home)

Ole Miss
Ala gave up 7 (away)
LSU gave up 3 (away)

Miss State
Ala gave up 7 (away)
LSU gave up 6 (away)

Florida
Ala gave up 10 (away)
LSU gave up 11 (home)

So common opponents,
Alabama 52 (1 home game)
LSU 47 (3 home games)

I guess you can create fictitious games for the other opponents but these are the common opponents and it looks pretty much identical.

I like LSU’s 2003 defense over all of those 3

Our 2003 defense did not have more talent but with Saban, it was fun to watch them at the end of the year. OK was tops in the country with a shite load of award winners but the Defense won that NCG.

Our 2011 Defense would have been even better if he had coached it also.

The only team among the common opponents with a pulse on offense was Arky. One of the TDs we gave up was a scoop-n-score when Ford fumbled. And Arky was a better team late in the season than when Bama played them.

We played two talented, modern, and proficient offenses OOC that year. Bama didn't do that.

Saban to this day with decided talent advantages struggles to stop exotic offenses.

Will take our 2011 D all day.

I say our 2011 defense has to be the best because how else do you make it to championship game with Lee or Jefferson as your QB.I bet you anything Miami doesn’t make the title game with Jefferson and Lee as their QBs all season in 2001.The only reason we won games was because of our defense

I know I’m wasting my time because you don’t understand marginal difference like that. But you are delusional if you think they wouldn’t have been able to beat Oregon WVU and UGA

Not sure where I made that claim. The bottom line is we played better competition, so ofbcourse their season stats look better. Against common opponents only, it's already been shown that we were better. Don't let that get in the way of your condescending attitude though.

2011 is the best college defense ever assembled

Statistically that's true, if we're talking about the 2011 Alabama Crimson Tide football team. They gave up about 100 yds/game fewer than did LSU, that year.

That defense was the best of the modern era. It’s not just that they were dominant; it’s that it didn’t matter what type of offense they faced. That defense had no weaknesses. A stout line, a punishing thumper at MLB, explosive edge rushers, safeties who could bring the wood and cover, corners that were…well, what can be said of those corners? They were good enough to start in the Pro Bowl! While in college! That team was an offensive coordinator short of greatness.

Your logic is that since Alabama didn’t play those good offenses, it makes LSU better. Can’t argue against that excellent logic.

No. My logic, implied in the prior post and easily discerned, now made explicit is:

a) We played a decidedly more difficult schedule. Hence, season stats would be comparing apples to oranges.

b) For common opponents, only one was 'comparison, worthy, Arky. We did as well if not better vs them than Bama.

c) Exotic offenses, which we played some and Bama didn't, to this day give Saban trouble. We did good against them.

d) Bama gave up 300+ rushing yards to GA Southern. Our D never had a breakdown like that against a b-grade opponent.

e) Our D played 14 games and never had an off game. Week to week pressure isn't easy to deal with. We did it.

This is correct.

Bama's "quality loss" to us was the brightest spot on their resume. Let's be real ... LSU played a legendary schedule that season including an extra game over Bama against the best SEC team from the East and played Bama twice.

The LSU 2011 team over the course of the full season was better than 2011 Alabama. Bama was better on one night in January that really mattered the most.

Also since LSU’s offense was marginal that year our defense likely had to play more downs than Alabama that season, which will equate to more yards given.

Let's see now, who was the Defensive Coordinator of that great 2011 Defense?

So, what transpired from 2011-2020; one of the best ever single seasons on Defense at LSU, to one of the worst? (With the same person as DC)

Was the DC an Alien Replicant in 2020 or what?

What happened on the field in 2020 doesn't make any sense. (And Shrimpy, along with the GOAT DB Coach, stood around and did absolutely nothing to correct the Defensive implosion)

Maybe you forget all the teams that quit by end of the 3rd?
Even after GOAT 2019, 2011 is still well repped in LSU's offensive record book (LSU Media Guide) and played a major role in that well rested defensive performance.
