it seems they have switched the argument from where would you would rank Orgeron among SEC head coaches right now in 2019 to which SEC coaches have the best resumes. It is two very different things

in a vaccuum

I woudl go
1. Saban - because duh
2. Jimbo - great recurring calls his won plays. has won a NC. Gotten 4 terrible QBs drafted in the first round.
3. Mullen - quick turn around. Great job coaching MSU. build a program there.
4. Smart - SEC Championship, NYE bowl, CFP win and NCG. ELITE recruiter. Good defensive mind.
5. O - Elite recruiter. Making savvy moves with his staff.

NOw obviously none of these coaches coach in a vacuum. I think LSU gives O a boost.

has nothing to do with who is a better HC. I agree with you that Orgeron would probably not be a very good OC or DC but he is definitely one of the top HC's in the SEC which is what the question was.

our team is top 3 SEC this year, but that doesn't necessarily mean the head coach is top 3.

Let's see how O does over the next few years, then we'll have enough data.

And look, I love where we are this year, but remember that Gene Chizik and Larry Coker won national championships.

Not all great teams are led by great coaches. But again, I like where we are and am giving O a lot of credit for that. Just not ready to vault him up to elite status.

shite, LSU has been the most impressive team in the conference this year. Does that make Orgeron the best coach this year?

You can't ask us to forget what we know about the rest of the coaches in the conference.

It is unfair to Coach O to grade him now, let’s allow him to finish this season. Like the movie title goes, Making all the right moves” so far.

I love the wait and see approach and how it only implemented when he’s winning.

I've said many times that I was against the O hire, but he's done OK. We were sold on O immediately elevating the program, and although we've done pretty good, we're not at championship level yet, and haven't come close to competing against Bama. Remember we finished 5-3 last year in the SEC.

So forgive me if I fail to anoint O as an elite coach because of a very nice win over Texas. I need more data. That's fairly rational, if you ask me.

But again, I'm thrilled with where we are right now, so let's see if we can keep going and get to where we want to be. I'll just withhold crowning O as an elite coach until we see sufficient proof.

Possibly. Didn't you just tout Mullins COY award?

It's a fluid profession and based solely on what you've done lately. That's why accomplished doesn't always mean permanently great.

I really like Dan Mullen.

Great track record as an OC at Florida.
Has done a lot with a little at Miss St.

I think Smart inherited a much better situation at UGA

Plus I question Smart continuing to try and remaining somewhat pro-style on offense.

Love/like/hate or not even care about Saban, he does all of it well.

If the current trend continues, O will be a top 5 coach in the country by the end of the year.

It's like that for everyone until they win a championship, and persists even for some that do win one. Calm down.

Well, let's not pretend that we didn't have to wait and see for O to get to this point.

This is pretty dumb take. We waited for 2 years and this is what we finally see.

It's pretty much the very definition of wait and see.

still early, but Mullen has to be above him not only for head to head record but he has definitely overachieved considering he’s made Felipe franks serviceable and won a Ny6 with a pretty weak roster

False. 2016 afterUF and getting blanked by Bama, I didn't think k hewqs the guy. That's fair. 2017 after state and Troy I justifiably didn't think he could take us to the next level. That's not passional, and not hating for no reason.
