Is LSU ready to be a playoff contender yet?

Based on our final rank at the end of the season, and our way to early projection for next season, is it too soon to say that LSU is a playoff contender? Secondly, is Joe Burrow enough to lead the Tigers to the playoffs and/or a national championship. Is Joe Burrow going to bring back the line of good QBs at LSU? Hopefully this new recruiting class will bring in great talent, and explosive playmakers.

Ask me around November 30th...

I think it’s like many posters have said. It will depend on the Oline. That said I think the offense will improve but how much it improves depends on the Oline.

If 11-1 gets us into the playoffs, then yes...I'm expecting no more than 1 regular season loss in 2019...this is based on the players we have.

does someone step up to play left tackle next year? that's the big issue.
burrow is good enough, especially with quality rb's and an oline. we have the receivers.

Hopefully Charles, Deculus and Traore all drop a bit of weight and improve their foot speed in the offseason. I do think Charles and Deculus are both guards, however, and I'm not sure Traore is SEC material. We'll see.
Other than that, it's Rosenthal, Wire, Magee, or Savage...or bust, again.

If we aren't a legit playoff contender next year I'm not sure when we will be. Senior QB, stout defense, two stud freshmen RBs. Time to go get it.

There is absolutely no reason we don't win 10 regular season games next year which will definitely have us in the conversation.

With everything LSU has coming back, along with a VERY CAPABLE QB, LSU "should" be a playoff contender.
Winning the SEC will be tough. If we don't win the SEC, we don't get in the playoff.

This isn't a sure thing...there's a decent chance that an 11-1 SEC team could still make it in.
Guys, if we had beaten bama this year, and if they had missed the SEC CG, they would've made it into the playoffs. Everyone knows this. We should make it in, too, if we accomplish that same feat. Two of bama's NCs came after they missed the SEC CG and didn't even win their division in their conference.
We should all be livid if an 11-1 LSU team, with their only loss being at bama in what I hope is a more competitive game in 2019, doesn't make the playoffs.

Not sure how anyone could say this at this point. I know we won't get necessarily the same deference as Bama would and does, but it's feasible that we could be 11-1, a non-SEC champ and still in the playoff.

They better be ready considering everything coming back, incoming class and depth.
I’m not in the group of celebrating 10 wins and 6th best.
They must win the games they’re suppose to and compete vs Bama.
If they can’t do that, there’s really no reason to be talking about playoffs.
No excuses next year. Zero.

Far from it.
When they start consistently winning 11 games every year, then we can have this discussion.

100% agreed. 2019 is THE year.
But 2018 was not and the notion that:

makes you an unreasonable fan. There is much to celebrate about this season and it was necessary to set up 2019. Experience matters and lots of our returners cut their teeth in 2018, with a ton of success.
I realize that as fans we want to win every game and we get to post ludicrous demands on anonymous message boards. But you really need to enjoy life more. 10-3 for this team was spectacular and set the table for next season.
And next season is truly playoffs or bust.

It better be, because 2020 looks like it's going to be rough.

Can you please elaborate on this line of good QBs. How many does it take to be considered a line?
