To some small extent I think so - but there is a reasonable LSU fan-base in parts of Texas now.

I've never heard of a player picking a school because of the conference. They pick a school because of the school.
It happens. You hear recruits say "I want to play in the SEC" or other conference often.

Texas A&M joining the SEC would hurt some of our recruiting in east Texas imo. We are the best option for east Texas recuits wanting to play in the premier conference in football.

But I'm sure that given the option they will pick a contender over a doormat almost every time. If Texas A&M joins the SEC West they will be Ole Miss 2.0.

true, but given time and $$$, they will improve over time. This will be the case at the very beginning.

I think it would hurt LSU a little, but I think it would strengthen the SEC. It would boost the TV market by 10 million.

aTm joining the SEC would hurt UT far more than LSU

We have seen UGA stand against inviting GA Tech, UF block inviting FSU, and USC protest inviting Clemson
In all three instances you have one school in a state blocking another school from the same state joining the conference.

It would hurt LSUs recruiting in Texas the same way Ole Miss and MSU do in Mississippi.

I don't think most of the players care about what conference they play for.
a lot of kids want to play in the SEC because they know how successful they've been in the national championship.

Minimal to none recruiting wise. LSU could overcome with hard work recruiting
LSU has had modest success in neighboring states like MS, AL, GA, UF.

what game would a east texas player rather play in. LSU vs Alabama/Florida type game vs Texas A&M vs Baylor.

We get enough stuff from Texas. I'd rather not have to hear about TAMU in SEC analysis. Plus I don't want to give them a voice at the table. Next step would be SEC Championship in Houston.

High school kids pic schools because they want to play in the NFL. Yes conference matters, but the goal of kids is to play in the NFL and conference comes third after NFL and school.
You aren't going to hear kids talk about the NFL on signing day.
One reason why Nick was successful and Michigan State and LSU and now Alabama is his record of NFL players. He went from the NFL to MSU and used his NFL pedigree to recruit some good players. He does that now at Bama.
Even though he quit Miami he can tell kids he knows what it takes to get to the NFL.
So I don't think a&m in the sec hurts LSU in getting talent. A&M isn't known as a nfl factory now. It could change though.

Texas A&M joining the SEC means that potential LSU recruits from east Texas who want to play in the SEC could play for their home state school instead of LSU
I think your underestimating the influence and support LSU has in houston and the surrounding SE Texas.

I have to agree on that point but when I grew up in La it would have been a dream to play for the Tigers. My home team. On the other hand I really can see a youth in a bad home situation to want to escape and start a new.

Idk if those schools admins have been against their in state rivals joining, but alot of internet talk points that direction. It would make sense that they would be against it though.
Then it's gospel.

Great question.
I do know one thing, A&M isn't going anywhere near the SEC unless Commisioner Slive gets to renegotiate the overall media deal. Based on the current market, and what the Pac12 just received, bringing the SEC back on the market will be a gusher of money.
LSU may be so busy counting four or five extra million dollars that you don't have time to worry about a recruit in Lufkin or Tyler.
