From what I am hearing from those at the game, it was actually very dark out by the fences? If that's the case, wouldn't it not be safe for the outfielders, too? If it was that bad, I am surprised CPM did not bitch. But,as well, apparently the press box is totally enclosed, so there were no sounds from the crowd at all, which really made JH's broadcast seem even flatter. It was like he was broadcasting a little league game, and he's at least better than that.

Great plays always make for exciting calls by him, but he is wrong.....ALOT

He can't see and instead of holding back he always goes big with his call

very odd that they built a pressbox without windows that can open.

Yeah the radio broadcast was very hollow sounding and odd.

Yeah, and if you misjudge as many as Hawthorne, you didn't play much.

I think the young people who didn't have the benefit of hearing all of the great Hawthorne calls are the ones who are so bent out of shape about it.

His terrible calls have been a running joke since about 1990. As a kid that grew up on LSU baseball, I know that it is nothing new for Hawthorne to badly miss the call on a fly ball. You almost have to expect at least one "going, going, going, caught" during every game.

Takes calls for old CWSs. He calls the game winner in 96 a 3 run home run and Hawpe blasts a 3 run homerun to right in 2000 and Jim says it's to left field.

It appears that his apologists are getting fewer and fewer. He really is bad on most all accounts, he had a great run but its over. I wonder if anyone in charge really cares or is he basically doing it for peanuts just to stay on the tit??

On a different note, anyone know where I can watch the highlights? I checked lsusports.net earlier but they dont have their highlight reel of this one, just a recap.

Or maybe the people that want an accurate call by a competent, professional broadcaster

Or maybe the people just want to cry like school girls because that's what they do best.

If after a 11-2 beat down of a want to be rival at their park you want to cry over a play by play guys miscall of a fricking fly ball, you are a clueless clown.

The worst part of his baseball broadcasts is his commentary between the pitches.

that and not knowing the rules of the game even when CH is sitting next to him explaining them.

Dude. Stop. Hawthorne is terrible. It's not whining. It's a simple matter of stating the obvious truth.

I met Hawthorne at a luncheon several years ago when Saban was head coach. I think the year was 2003. Anyway, Hawthorne was wearing glasses. Really, Really thick glasses. I have no medical documentation to back this up, but I think it's safe to say his eyesight is challenged.

Have loved him as our play by play guy forever. Many memorable calls. But at some point, some of the higher ups have got to realize how bad it is and step in. It's hard to tell a legend he doesn't have it anymore, but it's necessary. He is borderline embarrassing himself on air.

he's like a lame dog at this point

will someone please take him off the air....
