That will never, ever, ever, ever happen. Not in a million years will it ever happen. If they totally shut down the PMAC, you also have to find a place for women's basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics. The city just won't give away the River Center to LSU. And who the hell wants to go downtown to watch anything LSU related?

If you want bball to truly be back, they need to demo the whole thing, play a season at the River Center and build the crown jewel of college basketball.

How about they sell out what they have now first?

The River Center is not older than the PMAC. It opened in 1977. The PMAC opened in 1972. Both probably need to be replaced. The PMAC is in better shape than the River Center.

A "new" arena will have to go somewhere other than the current PMAC footprint, and there is no reason that it can't. The school has available land.

That said, I am pro-renovation of the PMAC. It's a landmark, and could be gutted and made better.

I agree. I'd rather them spend more money to renovate and keep it there, than build a new one somewhere else.

exactly. So many posters must think if get a brand new arena, the fans will come and get loud.

No - it's WINNING that does that. Many schools around the country have old arenas that are packed and rocking every night, because the team wins.

It's not the building - it's the product on the floor.

ETA: I'm not against renovating, just that we don't need to spend the money on a brand new place.

Cow Palace has not been used for livestock shows and rodeos since Lamar-Dixon was built in Gonzales years ago.

Parking would also be an issue. Football and track stadium lots are used for hoops parking. Space is very limited around the Cow Palace.

While watching the SEC Storied about Pistol Pete I googled the Parker Colosseum and thought this was pretty cool.
quote:

It was opened in 1937 and sat 12,000 people at its peak. At the time of its construction, it was 6 feet larger than Madison Square Garden, which made it the biggest coliseum in the United States.

Build a new T&F facility out by the new tennis complex.

Place New PMAC on the footprint of old T&F facility

Demo current PMAC and create "Legends Park" a grassy tailgating village filled with statues commemorating nattys and HoFers

I like this idea... And for the people saying we don't need a new arena because we don't sell out the one we have now... Most people talking about a new arena aren't talking about it in the sense of drawing more fans, but I the sense of the PMAC is not in great shape and has a pretty bad basketball layout that either cannot be fixed or would be expensive to. I'm pro new arena because I'd rather see them pump money into something fresh than to try to revamp something that's reaching the end of it's usable life

Every new arena built by big schools is betting hard on suite revenue. Right now, I don't see anyway possible to get that into a PMAC refurb.

what big programs are building new arenas? Most of the blue bloods play in old arenas (Indiana, Kansas, UCLA, Duke etc). The only big program I can think of that has done any sort of huge revamp is Kentucky. Ole Miss and Auburn built new, smaller arenas, but I don't believe either one of them have suites. The only teams that have suites I can think of that don't play in an NBA arenas are Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan St, UNC and UVA. I'm sure there are more but it is not the status quo or anything

Ole Miss and Auburn didn't either. Both have new arenas that replaced old ones built in 1966 (Ole Miss) and 1969 (Auburn).

Even South Carolina's arena, built in 2002, has suites. It replaced one built in 1968.

It's time to either run with the big dogs or not.

I kind of like this idea and it provides the ability to link the new arena to the practice facility just built.

The PMAC should be gutted and heavily remodeled. The lighting, and structure of the distance of the stands from the court zap the frick out of the energy IMHO

Ole Miss literally had to postpone a game due to rain leaking from their roof. The Tad Pad was a complete dump and made the PMAC look like the Taj Mahal

Most of the big dogs don't have new arenas.

Indiana

Duke

Kansas

UCLA

UConn

I don't watch much basketball but I don't remember seeing any college with goals like that.
