If you hold a coaches success against what Skip did every coach in college baseball would be a remarkable failure. The expectations for this program should be incredibly high, but if this fanbase is always expecting Skip level success they’ll always be disappointed.

How about 1/2 Skip levels? Can we at least aspire to that?

Has any team won 5 championships in a 10-11 year span since. I doubt it and will be surprised if it occurs again. IMO when Skip came here there were about 5-10 top programs. Today my guess is there are 20-25 possibly more.

Would we really pay CPM $3.3 million to NOT coach LSU Baseball?

No. Firing him would be a terrible idea.

However, him retiring would be a great idea.

I was really hoping this would be done by now. Our last series at home is this weekend and our last home game is next Tuesday. We are not going to host a regional. This weekend should be Paul Mainieri weekend at the Box, where we honor all his accomplishments by packing in the stadium, having him throw out the first pitch for a game, etc.

He deserves a send-off with a big crowd in an electric environment. The weather this weekend is supposed to be absolutely amazing.

We did the decade by decade breakdown. The number of programs who made the CWS from the 80s to the 10s only increased by 6 teams. The number of teams that had 3+ appearances was exactly the same… around 15.

I get that he’s declining and I agree he needs to go. BUT FOR THE LOVE IF GOD STOP COMPARING HIM TO SKIP! He will never be SKIP no body in the history of college baseball has ever came close to what SKIP did. Stop with that excuse

Where do you think the 3 million will come from? It’ll be through TAF/boosters.

Also, by “we” he meant LSU. Fans typically talk that way. It’s not unusual.

LMAO no he is not. Let’s not turn this into the next “Les Miles is a great man and a great family man” bullshite line that becomes “true” because morons on TD keep emotionally repeating it. Paul Mainieri is a gigantic dickhead and every ex-player I’m friends with hates him.

He’s always had one or two favorites on each team who absolutely love him, and Kramer was one of those, and that’s why Kim Mulkey sung his praises in her press conference. The only other player I’ve met who had nice things to say about him was Aaron Nola. That doesn’t mean that’s the standard experience that players have with him. I’m so tired of seeing him called a great man and mentor- it’s a flat out lie.

Say that he was successful in his early years and knew the game and I’ll give it to him, but he’s not a nice guy or good man in general and I can say that for a 100% fact

That’s what happens in collegiate sports when there’s a dominant program. There are only 3-4 “top programs” in college football since Alabama took over, while there were at least 10-15 from 1990-2009. If Alabama falls, it’ll open the door for parity again. That’s how it works. LSU is still very much capable of being that program with the right coach. We’re certainly better than sub-.500 under Les Mainieri

And your post is BS. I talk to ex-players that say the exact opposite of this. It’s all in who you talk to. Some of great experiences and some have bad. Chris Reid was on here and didn’t have anything bad to say about PM. In all honesty he’s one that could have complained

He had good things to say and bad things. I think he was fair to PM and himself. Paul obviously mishandled things with him more than once. Not so many players are as forgiving.

Why do people insist on denegrating a coach when it's time for him to move on? Literally no one was crediting Smoke with jack shite when Paul won that title in 2009. WHy has the narrative now changed?
