Is Brad Davis a Bad O Line Coach or was Kelly Tying His Hands?

So much has come out about Kelly being away from the team, but it seems like he set all the rules within which his assistants could operate.
Case in point: the defense asking for more physical practices immediately after Kelly got fired. If one coach could operate outside the purview of Kelly it was Baker and it seems like even he was denied things like contact against the offense throughout the season.
So, if you’re an o line coach and you have an all new o line and you’re trying to teach them to work together but you have to do it against air or blocking bags, is it your fault that your guys can’t block for shite or is it the fault of the coach who is setting the parameters?
Not that Davis doesn’t bear some responsibility. Obviously, the defense was able to make due somewhat without physical practices. But Davis was considered among the best o line coaches in college when we hired him. When at Arky and Missouri, his o lines were big, physical road pavers. Hell, he developed some players at LSU that earned all sorts of honors.
So, what the frick happened?
Kelly checked the hell out and the blowback on these coaches has gotta make them furious. I, for one, hope Kelly fricks off to Puerto Rico and drowns in a bottle. These other guys that caught the blowback I hope go on to have successful careers.

Was Davis all that successful other places? Asking for a friend.

It’s way too risky to find out

I feel like his recruiting prowess has been translated into him being a good coach. Those two things are not the same.

Don't know, Don't care. He gone!

Somebody posted the rushing stats for Davis at his previous stops in another thread. Doesn’t seem like he’s ever had success running the ball.

Davis was O's line coach also. And we sucked at that time also

I always wondered if Woodward made kelly hire him. He always had good lines at Notre Dame

Davis Hankton Sloan Etc did not just forget how to coach.
Kelly fricked them all over imo.
He may have been checked out, but my thought is that BK was such a diva and primadonna that he would walk into a coaches meetings late and was making the calls on who or who they could not bring in and who to play/what scheme to run and when, like he knew what the frick was going on.
Also, another option with these guys is that they were checked out on him. Wanting to not coach the players to be best of their ability to get BK the frick away from them.
I think these coaches were totally hamstrung, and didn't just become terrible coaches and recruiters. Something was holding them back.

quote:What "Recruiting Prowess?" He didn't recruit jack shite to LSU in 4 years; just a bunch of overrated "Kardell Thomas" types that could not handle LSU/SEC level of OL either mentally or physically. Made all the more worse by the petulant coaching of Brad "Hired by Shrimpy Orgeron" Davis. Yall quit crying over spilled milk. It's over. Kiffin, with Wolford and Cregg, will fix it.
Feel like his recruiting prowess has been translated into him being a good coach

This is spot on! All you idiots give Davis NO credit for the 4 OL that were drafted last year. Davis was mentored by one of the best in Sam Pittman.
BK was vocal about wanting to sign and develop OL lighter, quicker hence the decent pass- blocking. But they weren't big/strong enough to handle SEC DTs. BKs system was pure dog shot.
It's amazing to me that y'all wanna blame Davis AND get rid of all our OL, no matter how talented they are, he Weston Davis. Bunch of freaking idiots on this site!

Lol yea this is why we had guards playing at tackle or why everyone wants to keep Curne/Adams/Echols.
Brad Davis is a shite fricking coach, get over it lol.

Woodward would not allow Kelly to move on from Davis. This has been reported. Davis was a bad hire. That part Kelly has to take the blame for. Alot of Kellys growing disinterest and lack of work ethic towards the end was brought on by Woodwards constant micromanaging of everything. They both played a part in the downward spiral of this football team and that side of it doesn't get talked about enough because of how good Jay Johnson and Mulkey have been people don't want to hear it.

The fact that you have gotten but down votes should be the first indication that you are just talking out of your arse. You are just a loud mouthed idiot and nothing more.

What evidence do you have to support this or is this pure speculation as I expect it is?
