He started at 3B and ended at 3B. That’s the point I am making. I’m quite sure Johnson will look at a lot of player combinations at 3B/2B/1B/LF/DH. There are a lot of players fighting for time. That doesn’t mean his first look isn’t White at 3B.
Ok, at least we can agree that is meaningless.

I believe CJJ brings in another MIF if anything with a great glove!

Gotta hope White can play 3rd base.

That MLB data where you have some of the most coordinated and athletic people in the game? That’s what we are looking at?
Nearly every team has elite SSs at all 3 IF positions. We are talking about players who are all better than Austin Nola and where Bregman got moved to 3B. Those are the guys throwing to 1B. I agree that at that level, 1B means very little. But this isn’t close to that situation where a 1B needs to save way more outs.

The answer is to get better infielders or get your infielders better. You can't base your defense on the need for a 1B to handle bad infielders. Let's not act like it's important in college, across the board, to have houdini at 1B. Just look at the 1Bs around the SEC. They're mostly fat, slow, or both or just couldn't cut it anywhere else.

You can’t if you have options and know what you’re getting. But you have to if your defense needs it. What we know about this defense means we need Morgan at 1B. Just because a thing is supposed to be a certain way doesn’t mean you have to ignore reality.

Just checked in on princess island off of Istanbul. I caught up on the thread. One small thought that went unnoticed. Yes Neal is supposedly a pretty good infielder. I think he needs to spend his time learning to catch, but he could play there rather than sit behind Milazzo if Milazzo beats him out.

And by and large they're just fine. I only remember the way two first basemen field over the last couple years. Morgan because he's made some spectacular plays and Kendrick Calilao at Florida because he's perhaps the worst fielding first baseman I've ever seen in college.
Everyone else is just there.

My point is that we don’t have the luxury because of our shitty infield and lack of proven backups even. Most years, sure… hide Dean or Ochinko or Moore over there. We don’t have those defenses anymore.

I don't really disagree with you on that.
I just really wanted to mention how terrible I think Kendrick Calilao is at fielding his position.

If the reason Morgan doesn't move off of 1B is bc our infield still can't throw, then the season will look alot like last year.

But Jay has him listed as a catcher. So, he's a catcher.

It’s really has nothing to do with mlb. If college baseball was popular enough, they’d use the same exactly calculations. This is all baseball-relative

You dumb son, he's definitely playing 2 ways.

I think We could see Some Interesting lineups.
Morgan in the OF, Beloso at first, Neal catching and Joubert at DH would give us 5 lefties if we want to go lefty heavy.
Neal batting lefty may get him
In the lineup if He can hit better Than Milazzo.

That’s not what anyone is saying. The analogous argument would be if someone came on here and said Neal WASN’T going to play CATCHER and people disagreed with that. No one is saying they are only going to play one position. We’re simply arguing Johnson has a plan for their PRIMARY position. That doesn’t mean it will work out that way, but we have a pretty good idea what his plan is for now.

If you believe that, then you clearly don’t understand what those numbers represent. Your assertion earlier that the relative defensive value of 3B and 2B have evolved over time is accurate. If those values change over time, they also change across playing levels.

Will Johnson field a top 50 defense or can we hope for top 150 at best again?

Shut up magician. Stop posting please

How many innings did he play in the OF for team USA? All the reports stated he started 6 games at 1st base.
