Because they were investigating a unrelated crime that led them to this rabbit hole. Are they not supposed to investigate additional crimes? What happens if they ignored this and they missed a horrendous crime unrelated to this but something they would have caught if they would have done their due diligence? Can't have it both ways. Now if they would have just started investigating only this, I would agree with you.

How about you put the guy that literally stole money from people to fund a movie in jail?

Instead they allowed him to basically create an investigation that is completely unrelated to his criminal activity by saying he could prove coaches, who are technically government workers, are taking money from people as bribes to steer players towards them, but very early on it was proven that the coaches aren’t the ones taking the money. It is going straight from the shoe companies and agents to the player and their families.

I watched it. I’m a bit surprised at the reaction here. Although honestly I shouldn’t be, some of the same folks who argued the “strong arse offer” was a schollie are back to actually praise Wade.

I’m not one that says he has to go because of the tapes. But damn guys can y’all at least be honest it’s not a good thing to have your coach talking about paying players on an FBI wiretap?

And yes while he was joking about the “player” in the D League comment (bcs the player wasn’t available) do you honestly, I mean in your heart of hearts on your death bed getting Last Rites, really believe he was joking about finding a way to pay a player that he thought could help the program? I mean, come on.

It’s one thing to say that the tapes are not proof positive. I agree it’s not definitive proof that Wade paid anyone. It’s another altogether to say he was just joking on one of the tapes and was talking schollie on the other.

As for what happens from here? My guess is Wade’s future is entirely dependent upon if the NCAA issues a Notice of Allegations or not and how serious they are or not.

My perspective on this is for the first time in a while I actually trust the AD to handle it in a way that is best for LSU.

This is the one that is going to really flame the NCAA. They’ve looked into Wade dating back to his VCU days.

I f*cking listened to the f*cking clip and f*cking Will f*cking Wade likes to f*cking say "f*cking" a lot.

Not the best representation of LSU, but otherwise, there was nothing new. The NCAA may hit LSU with a cuss jar implementation.

I said the same thing last night. This was the one thing that really jumped out to me more than anything else.

In case anyone missed the Will Wade audio last nightWhatever your opinion may be is just fine. But why wouldn’t you want to draw your opinion off of the facts? That’s all I’m saying. Straight from the ncaas mouth last Summer: we held off investigation because the government wanted us to wait until after the trial. If you think Will Wade & smart were cleared of everything in a few days, so be it. There’s more information out there though that you are ignoring.

Here is Wade answering questions from LSU/ncaa on the tapes: "Christian is one of many people in recruiting circles that I talk to. Though we've never signed a player that he brought to my attention, he could possibly be a valuable contact in the future. I was just placating him and joking around with him to keep possible communication open in the future. We never have, nor ever will illegally induce players to come play for us."

That, along with the apparent absence of a money trail is justification for the conversation on the wiretap. I think it's very possible Wade's current lawyer can craft this kind of explanation for him (probably even better than me).

Coach Wade, why did you refuse to meet with LSU for 6 weeks after you were suspended?

Why did you forfeit $250,000 of bonus money that you contract said you were entitled to?

Coach, why did you amend your contract to make it easy to fire you?

There was pending litigation and I was advised by legal counsel not to comment on an ongoing legal matter

I reached an agreement with my employer to bring closure to the situation and make amends for the work missed while I was away (due to previously mentioned legal advice)

My employer was under scrutiny because of the ongoing legal matter, I merely agreed to insert a formal clause in my contract (that could have been enforced on my previous contract) as a means to reach an amicable resolution to my time away.

Coach, when you finally did meet with LSU, the trial was still going on.

Do you have a better excuse?

I know what you did, can you please explain why you would give up money yet still attempt to maintain innocence?

I know. With the info available, it likely was a "play this player at your own discretion"

LSU cleared him to play after a joint investigation with both LSU and the NCAA where no evidence of wrongdoing was found

quote:

"LSU has cleared freshman Javonte Smart for today's game against the University of Florida in the SEC men's basketball tournament. Smart has fully cooperated and participated in a joint inquiry with LSU and the NCAA resulting from reports of wiretapped conversations purportedly involving head coach Will Wade. "Smart was held out of the regular season finale against Vanderbilt out of an abundance of caution in cooperation with the NCAA. Though the inquiry is not closed, after multiple additional interviews, there has been no wrongdoing identified to date. As a result, and because of his full cooperation and transparency in this matter, Smart has been cleared by university officials for play on Friday

Please show me what evidence of wrongdoing you have if none had been identified as of that date.
