thats debatable
Actually, it’s not debatable. He leads the team in hits and batting average. So... not sure what’s to debate.

I think the biggest difference between Morgan and Crews as hitters is that Morgan has trouble turning quality fastballs and Crews kills em. Don’t get me wrong he’s great at staying in there and flipping them oppo but Crews absolutely kills em.

Walker, Barbier, Furniss, Pontiff, Mestepey, Mahtook, Bregman.

Talk about a freshman group. 1992 Todd Walker , Jason Williams and Russ Johnson were all freshmen.

Anyone know the Fr record for HRs? He has to be closing in unless I’m missing someone obvious
Fontenot with 17 in 2000?

It’s odd that Russ isn’t talked about more. He was a stud, hit over .400 with 15+ bombs and 25+ stolen bases in 94 if I remember correctly. Was also very good every other season he was here. Maybe the most underrated Tiger infielder ever.

Brett Laxton did ok in post season as a freshman.

Matty Ott is also worth mentioning

Mike Fontenot says hello.

Nope incorrect. Crews blows Bregman out of the mother fricking water.

Actual numbers, crews definitely outplayed Bregman, but LSU baseball is not that young historically young pups. Walker definitely had the best numbers. Now I love Morgan just as much. We do have Dugas and Doughty but this team no doubt feeds off of those two freshman.

if Morgan would be more of a consistent hitter he would be right there in the conversation
Morgan hit 390 in the SEC; Crews hit 299.
I give a slight edge to Crews on the whole season stats, but only very, very slight.

Come on. Pretty much the same BA, though Bregman had more hits, but less power. Defensively, he more than made up for it. From Wiki - In 2013, he batted .369/.417/.546 with 104 hits (second in the nation), 18 doubles (third in the SEC), seven triples, six homers, 52 RBIs, 59 runs, and 16 steals in 17 attempts, and had a 23-game hitting streak.[8][13][36] Bregman won the 2013 Brooks Wallace Award as the country's best college shortstop.[37] He was also voted first-team All-American by Baseball America, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Perfect Game, and the Jewish Sports Review. In addition, he was named the 2013 National Freshman of the Year by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), and was voted 2013 SEC Freshman of the Year and first-team all-SEC by the league coaches.[8][13][38][39][40] Moreover, he was named 2013 ABCA First-Team All-South Region, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Baton Rouge Regional Most Outstanding Player, Louisiana Freshman of the Year, and SEC Player of the Week (March 25, 2013), and named to the 2013 USA Collegiate National Team (for which he batted .361).[8][41]
