I'm starting to get concerned about UCLA.

I've gone on record with a 37-20 prediction in favor of the good guys, but I've done more research on UCLA. I think this game is gonna be a hard fought, close game.

UCLA has 20 returning starters.

They have one game before we play.

LSU has to travel across the country.

After the Covid year, home field advantage is going to be huge this year.

Their starter is a mobile QB. If the defense is not very disciplined, he could gash us.

I would like to think that our athletes are markedly better than theirs, but honestly I don't know. 2020 is still rattling around in my cranium.

Somebody talk me off the ledge.

Your concerns are noted, but this is the one that never makes sense to me:

BYU did, too. That's all.

Three words: LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. Who have they played against that can match up with guys like Ojulari, Anthony, Gaye? Roy, Farrell, Guillory. Hell even Masson Smith as a freshman is probably better than anything they’ve faded. Not to mention their secondary is suspect af. Cost them tgeir games last year(abd that’s coming from a UCLA guy)
However your biggest point about 2020 is exactly why I’m not worried. Those players for LSU…. THEY ARE PISSED!!! They’ve heard nothing but how bad they underachieved last season. And they’re ready to take their frustrations out on another team.

They have no advantage. They are giving away tickets in hopes their fans will show up.

They returned 20 starters from a bad team. Their TE is very good. Tigers 31-14

Well said. I hope you're right.

Our D has a point to prove, we're good.

we also have a lot of returning starters, the 2 hr difference is irrelevant when you travel 2 days in advance, we had 68 players on our roster in 2020, we have 85 now.

UCLA gives away tickets to their student section EVERY year in games played weeks before their students are back on campus. UCLA starts classes after Sept 20.

We should be concerned about playing UCLA not because UCLA is awesome or even good, but because we were 5-5 last season and looked like complete and total crap on defense. I know we have made personnel changes and have more experience. I expect us to be better, but I need to see it first.

LSU wins 31-20.

In UCLA's last 4 recruiting classes they have signed 17 4 star players and 0 5 stars. The rest are 3 star and below.

In LSU's last recruiting class they signed 2 5 Star players and 16 4 stars.

LSU is also returning most of its starters or at least players with starting experience.

UCLA is going to give LSU a game, but unless something goes terribly wrong they should pull away in the end.

BYU did, too. That's all.

So did Virginia Tech back in 2002. That was a game we objectively should have won, just like the UCLA game. We lost that game, in large part because they already had the kinks worked out, and we spent a lot of the game trying to figure out what works.

These "major" OOC games, for LSU, it's trying to see where you are, early in the season. But for the opponent, against LSU or another marquee SEC team, it's all about trying to steal a high-value win.

None of that really concerns me. It fires me up. I don't want to play scrubs.
