It seems like almost every year we fall short of our preseason ranking and expectations. I know Saban being in the division hasn't helped that. Off the top of my head, the most fun years to watch LSU were 2001 when we arrived and won the sugar bowl, 2003 natty, and 2011(besides 1/9). 2007 ended well, but that whole year was stressful with so many tight games and close losses to teams we should not have lost to. Hopefully this season can be like one of those three years we exceeded expectations because we seem to fall short more often than not.

I can't remember the last time LSU overachieved in football since 2007.

Ed Orgeron was not the hire to have these expectations. A&M made the bold moves. We settled...no getting around that.

I don't know why all these people downvote posts like this, but you're in denial. Every sports talk station in the SEC says no program would've hired Ed Orgeron and Steve Ensminger. Fact.

I would argue that with JJ and JL as the QBs, the 2011 team overachieved....at least until 1/9

Not a single person has said we’ll only win two games. But you can find a lot who will ramble on for days about how much better the program is today than it was a few years ago, but want no part of setting expectations above 8 or 9 wins.

If LSU would have just won the games against Bama they should have Saban would probably have 3 less championships.

I'd argue that we have been overachieving sine about 2001, but some people here don't realize that there are 110+ teams in FBS and to be top 25 or is pretty much awesome.

If your a fricking middle tier team or in a non P5 conference it is

Being a top 25 teams doesn’t mean shite. There are maybe 10 good teams a year after that they’re just filling spaces

So your faith in sports lies in the words of people hired to stir the pot? Most of those guys are wannabes that never played a down and pass words from one to the next until they believe they are facts. I'm not saying O or Ensminger are the best in the world but what is wrong to listen to players and recruits that interact with the coaching world every day? You just spew negativity - not fact! Must be a miserable world you live in. How can you be a Tiger fan? Even better - WHY?

The emotional roller coaster of LSU football is fun to watch. We as a fan base go from end of the world to total optimism on a daily basis.

I’m as guilty as anybody else.

No power 5 program would hire Orgeron or Ensminger for the jobs LSU gave them. Never forget Syracuse wouldn’t even interview Orgeron.

It's impossible to overachieve when you enter most seasons with championship expectations. Seems like what you're really ready for is lowered expectations. Congratulations, you got what you want.

Great post. You're exactly right. All the hype but don't you dare suggest the results need to back it up bc well that's just being negative and crying/whining

You are correct about the hire of O and E. However the same can be said of the DS hire at Clemson.

Well according to the rant, if we win 7 games total it should be considered an over achievement. So be happy with that if you get it.

Almost everyone of those experts, if they were in a position to be heard at that time, were predicting that Saban would be unsuccessful when he came to LSU. "Yankees can't win and recruit in the South".
If LSU were to beat Bama and Georgia next season, they would all get amnesia about their predictions. Of course if we beat Bama forty points, Feinbaum will still be cheering for Bama.

How of those brainless blowhards predicted LSU basketball would finish at the bottom of the conference this past season.
