In your scenario, we'd probably be the ones to face Bama in the first round. We wouldn't be any higher than a 4 seed by not even playing in the conference championship.

Why don't we just beat them instead of hoping someone else does it for us?

Because last time LSU beat them they were rewarded with having to play them again.

If LSU is going to have to play them twice I'd rather LSU win the second time around.

Like is to short to not get behind the Tigers. No denying the program is stronger now than it has been in 7-8 years

I’m just an LSU fan.

I was pulling for him, like I was pulling for miles to win. This is a good talent accrual. Need to keep it.

But then you have to do some other things as a head coach, as winning depends on the following:

-Develop the talent
-Prepare the talent during The off-season
-Prepare the mens’ psyche Before the season to reject failure in every drill
-Develop an offense/defense/st game plan and identity
-teach these men that it is okay to destroy weaker teams so you can prepare your third stringers in these games for bigger games when our 1&2s go down or need air.
-make halftime and in-game adjustments
-create a culture of getting Stronger in the fourth quarter

You can win ~7 without doing these things. You can win 8-10 by doin g some of them.

But there are a few coaches out there that know how to do all of these things, every time. And they have translated it from 10 win seasons to 11-12 win seasons.

It takes all of that and more to win one or two more to separate yourselves from all the 10 Win teams (none of which were in the pac or big 10....whom also didn’t make it to the playoff).

Some coaches don’t see the point in spending all that time and effort to win one more, when a 10 win season will keep you at your job making $2+ million per year. While some just don’t know how to create that atmosphere.

O is collecting the talent to do it. This season is huge.

I hate you as a poster but I'm pulling for you as a person.

Hang in there Ben.

I liked your post, I just don't see us beating Bama this year. I sincerely hope I'm wrong. And that's one crow sandwich I'll gladly eat if it happens. I don't think we're ready yet. I feel like there will be a lot of disappointed fans if we think we're ready for Bama this year.

That’s a fact. If O doesn’t get it done this year, he never will.

This. And as soon as you figure it out, you end the experiment right then and there. You don't prolong the agony and wallow in mediocrity like LSU did with Miles.

You either have the right guy at head coach or you don't. I'd rather hop around from coach to coach every 4-7 years until you catch the right one than to hold on to coaches for 10-15 years that do pretty well but never get over the hump.

5y ÷ 25y = 5 coaches
12y ÷ 25y = 2.1 coaches

You have a much better chance in an equivalent timespan to find the right coach when you try on 5 of them than you do when you try on 2 of them.

Facts. Luckily Woodward won't fall for the sunk cost fallacy, as someone like Alleva would have.

Lol. He can bring in who he wants but as long as he’s calling the shots on game day then we will continue to lose to Saban, Mullen and Fisher...who are all much better coaches.

This place will be epic when O loses in Austin.

verything is in place. Really no point in bickering about it. Ed O has everything he needs and he’ll either deliver this year or he won’t. This is the put up or shut up year.

This. I think we find out O's ceiling this year. All the pieces are in place, and he deserves the credit for that. Not saying this will necessarily be his best season, but we will find out if he's capable of making us elite on the field. A big season this year would be huge for recruiting since we're aiming for so many out of state prospects- those are the ones that change their minds whichever way the wind blows. With all the returning starters and upgrades, I think a playoff birth is the goal and anything less i'd be disappointed. Granted we will have to get some breaks with injuries and ball bounces but this season looks promising.

Thanks for that Demone.

I'm always looking for the names of these concepts. Often find myself in discussions with people having to give these long drawn-out explanations or use multiple examples to try to explain. It's nice to be able to just slap a phrase on an idea for easy referencing.

Also found the descriptor of another bother of mine, that a lot of Louisianians fall victim to, while looking up sunk cost fallacy. Escalation of Commitment.

I think these two failings alone are responsible for the ridiculous cost of used goods in Louisiana compared to other states.

Year three is usually when you see a program come into its own. Plus, all the experience on the field

It's a litmus test of sorts, there should be improvement this year. I would say there has to be improvement considering the elements in place.

I agree this could be a problem.

epic when O loses in Austin.

But this will not be.

This is an easy win over an overhyped team a la Miami last year.

Will be a great stage setting win with the likes of V Tech, Oregon, etc
