I reread the leak as reported by ESPN Chattanooga. Wade said he made an offer, that it was tilted toward the player and his mother, and that the third party didn't like his share of the deal.

Here you have Wade admitting to making an offer. That it involved his mother and a third-party, presumably a middleman, seems to prove it was not just a scholarship but was improper and against NCAA rules.

That IS pretty damning.

Hey, I don't like the current rules. I think players should be paid. However, it gives coaches no license to break the rules. If reform needs to be made, GET THE RULES CHANGED.

We all know he cheated. The point is everybody else does it to and they haven't leaked anything about them.

Most of the RANT loons that are swarming in on this issue haven't read that article.

Expecting an intelligent reaction around here is hopeless.

I can understand that sentiment. Yet "Everybody's doing it" is not an excuse. I will leave it there.

Go ahead and downvote or even RA. I am going to tell the truth as I see it. You want Coach Wade to have the same liberty as all others, but yet you don't want to grant me the same liberty in simple discussion. I got it.

I simply expressed my opinion and backed it up.

Hey, I am terribly disappointed but I am one that believes in following the rules AS WELL AS winning. Hope I can be proven wrong, but it seems very clear-cut. Remember, money or the benefit does not have to change hands, but the coach is guilty if he offers.

C'mon, big boy!

It’s not an excuse, it’s the truth, and if you can’t handle the truth stop bitching about it...

This is about the 5th time you've reported those same identical suspicions or conjecture as fact. It is tiresome.

as reported by ESPN Chattanooga
ESPN Chattanooga . . . Which is not original reporting, but rather recycled from the Forde-Thamel-Wetzel Yahoo piece.

The Yahoo piece in turn is put together by reporters with a checkered record for accuracy. It relies on an edited, abridged transcript of a supposed conversation likely leaked by Attorney Steve Haney.

Haney's motivation is to defend his client Christian Dawkins by scaring hell out of enough people and programs to get pressure placed on SDNY to cease and desist actions against his client. An accurate, contextual transcript may not be in his client's interest.

If Wade is inappropriately damaged in the crossfire, Haney couldn't care less. Ditto for Thamel and Wetzel who are none the worse for wear after previous instances of erroneous reporting. The Wade leak is simply one means to a hopeful end by Haney in Dawkins defense, and to gain attention by a team of attention-whore writers. Getting it right is of secondary interest to each.

That does not mean they haven't gotten it right.
But it certainly does not mean they have either.

Deal never went through.

Was rejected. He was never paid anything. He is playing for free.

Simplest defense in history.

Cry bitch. And get back with me when you find out why Zions daddy rejected the deal of a lifetime woth Kansas and obviously Clemson for going to Duke for free.

I'm sure it was for the experience ce

Sure, no wiretap....that we know of. Enough smoke there for the lamest detective in the world to figure out.

Marylands middleman got REPAID by Kansas middle man when he chose Kansas because the family already took the dough.. ... players name is D'souza.

Why isnt Kansas getting hammered? Where is the outrage over Zion? By rule Zion is ineligible but is still playing. Not a PEEP from media except a few.

We have dollar amounts and texts, and more, yet we worked up over a tap with zero dollar amounts and speculation alone about what the deal was.

Optics are bad. No doubt. The entire collegiate game needs to burn.

You are right, he cheated, he got caught.
Don't worry about the down votes, our fanbase is going through what is commonly called the denial stage. Some are ahead of the game is all.

Yep, and that rhetoric will not get our coach back. Only chance we have is ‘nothing’s proven’ and ‘this is not an LSU or WW investigation.

UNC cheated. UNC got caught. Did UNC suspend RoyWilliams for setting up fake "paper" classes? No. Did UNC suspend a player or players for participation in those fake classes? No. Did UNC admit a damn thing to NCAA investigators? No. Did UNC come through unscathed? You bet!

Related to this scandal, according to the same sketchy sourcing some of you are quoting as Gospel, Coach Self and Kansas Assistants are caught on tape and in correspondence discussing money for players. Is Bill Self suspended? Were KU players suspended?

Arizona's coaching staff is caught talking money right and left. Is Sean Miller suspended? Is AZ suspending players?

Zion Williamson's reps are all over the tapes, selling themselves to the highest bidder. Is Duke suspending members of its staff? Is it suspending Zion?

This is not about cheating. It is not about getting caught, Because, like it or not, the jury is still out on both of those counts . . . Literately.
This is about presumption of innocence, loyalty, and having your own peoples' backs.

Doesn’t matter as far as Wade goes. The offer is a violation in a d of itself.

Sure, he can tell the NCAA that when they inevitably ask. Are you suggesting he go with this ridiculous “defense” if he is asked—under oath—by a United States federal prosecutor next month?

You are assuming Wade ever takes the stand? Haney's "everybody-does-it" defense was disallowed previously by the court. Perhaps this judge will allow it, in which case Wade and a truckload of other coaches will be dragged in to testify. If this does reach the point that he is asked to testify, he should tell the truth.
