Yes, LSU paid Saban the 3rd highest CFB HC salary to come to LSU after a 3-8 season because LSU was in such high demand.

The sentiment of this isn't lost but LSU isn't the only "D1" school in Louisiana.

Some people will convince themselves of anything to make LSU look better. I use to do that kind of shite when I was in college...then I grew up.

At some point they were taking the football players by bus from the locker room to the practice fields and a lot of times the were walking

That's fair. Like I said, the sentiment of what you said is correct - it took some figuring out that LSU was a sleeping giant and it had (and still has) a lot of advantages over other schools, including most of the ones in the SEC.

Oh how I wish LSU fans could move on from Saban. The best part of his retirement will be opening Tiger Droppings and not seeing 2-3 sidebar articles about him

Saban saw the opportunity that LSU presented with its place in the SEC and, most importantly, easier access to great talent than what Michigan St. offered. However, he had a clear vision of what he thought it would take to make LSU a championship program and he was DEMANDING in getting the resources necessary to make that vision a reality. The AD and BOS weren't fully on board with that vision. However, Mark Emmert helped sway them. Since that time the mindset at LSU completely changed. But make no mistake. Bertman wasn't exactly someone who wanted to spend lavishly as an AD. He may have been the guy who had the cache to softly sell the fans on the significant cost increases that were set to come with the changing landscape of college football. But he wasn't the driving force.

Saban completely changed the football culture here. To his immense credit, Miles kept it going for a long time despite facing some really high expectations. Without the Saban hire LSU is probably, at best, Auburn. A program capable of a great season or two here an there, but always seemingly riding that roller coaster of good success and bad seasons. Until Orgeron thought himself to be one of the great minds in college football coaching, LSU went two decades without ever experiencing losing.
