For the young ums

quote:

There are two words that terrify every LSU fan right down to his or her very core. They hold such power, it can make a grown man weep. It is the worst thing that has ever happened to LSU's football program in over one hundred years.

quote:

When Curley Hallman took the LSU job, LSU had never had more than two consecutive losing seasons in its entire history. Well, Hallman took that as a challenge and completely rewrote the LSU record book on futility. He inherited a 5-6 team coming off of two straight losing seasons, and he righted the ship. Right into the iceberg.

quote:

Curley Hallman guided LSU through the worst period in its entire football history. His tenure is not just the biggest disaster in LSU history, it is simply THE Disaster in LSU history.

quote:

His record of ineptitude stands unmatched in the annals of Tiger football history. Four seasons, all of them below .500. So not only is he the only coach in LSU history to have coached at least ten games and post a losing record, he posted a losing record in each and every season

quote:

He was hired in 1990 and he immediately showed all Tiger fans what we could expect over his tenure: losing. His first game was a 31-10 loss to Georgia. Showing that was no accident, he followed that up with a 45-7 loss to Texas A&M.

quote:

He also made the single dumbest decision I have ever seen a college coach make. In 1994, LSU trailed Texas A&M in its season opener by five points with about two minutes to go. Holding two timeouts and the ball just short of midfield, LSU faced a fourth down. Curley, unbelievably, decided to punt. It was a call so stupid that the other team couldn't quite believe it. They sent out a 4-3 defense against our punt unit because it had to be a fake, because surely no coach is stupid enough to punt in this situation. Curley was. And he did. A&M got the ball, ran out the clock, and won the game. It's been almost 20 years and I still can't believe that actually happened.

LSU Tigers (Southeastern Conference) (1991–1994)
1991 LSU 5–6 3–4 T–6th
1992 LSU 2–9 1–7 6th (Western)
1993 LSU 5–6 3–5 T–4th (Western)
1994 LSU 4–7 3–5 4th (Western)
LSU: 16–28 10–21

Those were some rough years, baws....

I could kick you in the balls for reminding me of that. Those years just made you want to cry or kill something. However, those of us who were fans back then had real character. We still went and cheered our asses off.

Look, every fan of every program has a coach that they can't stand, and use as a stand in for every lousy coaching decision the program has ever made. Alabama has Mike Shula. Florida has Ron Zook. Mississippi has pretty much every person they have hired since 1970, but especially Ed Orgeron.

We should have known better to hire one of the Three Stooges.

And if we’re going to go that route, Larry or Moe we’re clearly the better options.

Losing to A&M back then really frustrated me more than losing to any other team for some reason.

Late one night two guys are walking through a parking lot near LSU. They hear someone calling for help and see a man hanging by his pants from a chain link fence. They help him down and he goes on his way.

It was LSU head coach Curly Hallman. Apparently he was climbing the fence after sneaking to see his coed girl friend at her apartment.

I'll never forget the night when Southern Miss beat us at home. FWIW It was all Brett Farve's fault. He maid Hallman look like a super coach as USM.

I was too young to remember those years but he looks like such a dumb Alabama hick a-hole, no way I could watch him ruin our program. Should’ve fired every single person in the athletic department for allowing him to stay after leading us to 2-9

My God! Must we be reminded?? The worst 4 years in Tiger history! The guy was an idiot! If I recall, he said he couldn't win with our upperclassmen, wanted to play his players. Didn't matter who was on the field- he simply couldn't coach!!

I joined the military and was in alaska from 1990 to 1994 . This was before games were shown all around the country. i rarely saw an LSU game we never got jefferson pilot. The one time i turn the tv on and i couldnt believe my beloved tigers were finally on in alaska. I missed the first couple of qtrs. they flashed the score it was like LSU 3- tenn- 33. I promptly turned the tv off and that was the last time i saw them till like 1995 when i returned to the states. Best 4 years not see many LSU games I like to think i lucked out by being assigned to alaska for that timeframe.
