Since the series is a week away from the Friday opening game , is it possible skenes could pitch again?

Probably the 3rd game if we need him.

If we win the first two games in Omaha, we're pitching Floyd or Hurd (whichever one doesn't start game 2) and will only use Skenes if we lose that game. If not, he's starting game 1 of the championship series.

Nothing says we would play on Friday in Omaha. Could be Saturday for first game.

Very possible. Louis Coleman did it.

It will depend on how the rest of the tourney goes.

If LSU is in the losers bracket he will probably pitch the first game against the 2-0 team like Lange did in 2017.

If they start 2-0 Hurd probably pitches the first game against the losers bracket team and if they lose that one he will pitch the if necessary game like Faedo did for Florida in 2017.

If he has to pitch one of those two games he will only be available to start in game 3 of the championship series.

First game will either be Saturday or Sunday.

Coleman was a special player with the ability to pitch in multiple games a weekend. We’ve never had another like him since - a pitcher who could both start and relieve on the same weekend. He may be the most valuable pitcher I’ve seen at LSU.

Part of that is philosophy. Pitch counts weren’t nearly as big of a deal in 2009 as they are known. That was one thing Dunn stopped the moment he took the LSU job. He knew the MLB mindset and what those front offices thought about pitchers used like that.

Whoever wins our group (#5 seed) will play its first game Fri June 16 at night.

Championship Series starts on Sunday, June 25.

Pre-Coleman, that was Ben's MO. Also Jared Bradford did that in '07 and '08. Was a starter but also picked up 5 saves each of those seasons.

Post-Coleman, it's rare. Marceaux did it in the Eugene regional last year.

But agree with you, Louis Coleman was a special warrior. Fitting he got the last out vs UT in '09.

I was wrong. It used to start on a Saturday but that changed last year and it starts on Fridays now.

I don’t think they decide who plays in what game until after supers are done tho. At least they used to because they would take into consideration of a super was played a day later because of rain delays.

Yes, the format has changed considerably. I didn't realize that either. For those that didn't know:

The tourney now starts on Friday. If history keeps serve, the left side of the bracket will start on Friday/Sunday and the right side on Saturday/Monday. Then on Tuesday both sides of the losers bracket will play. Wednesday will feature both sides as well. Thursday will be the "if necessary" games. Friday is an off day. Then the championship series will be Saturday thru Monday.

I’m having trouble understanding what you are asking? Why wouldn’t he pitch in an opening game of the Championship Series?

It's possible he will already have 2 starts by then. He would start in our first game in Omaha on Friday. If we had to play in the "if necessary" game on Thursday, I suspect he would start that game on 5 days rest, which would burn him for the championship series. Now, if we go 3-0 to reach the championship series, obviously he would start game 1 on Saturday.

But, as the downvoters will tell you, let's get past the regionals and supers first.

I don’t think he would start the “if necessary” game. I would think JJ would gamble and start somebody else and only bring Skenes in if he absolutely had to to stay alive so he would have his best pitcher available for the Championship
