Same. They fooled me last summer with the multiple and spread the ball out to the playmakers comments. I wanna see what we're working with next week.

well canna was a run first guy only we used whole field like CUM and GUS BUS UNLIKE leslie miles who played in a phone booth between the tackles.

SLINGER is supposed to be THROW FIRST, spread pass similar to crowton to open up run second. if guys cannot make catches and keep clock running we will wear out the D. turnovers COULD be an issue also the more you pass if you are not good at it. see troy 2008 and those styles of passing games.

Ok. A transfer QB comes in for fall camp and you mention mistskes in the passing game and don't expect people to think about a new offense with very little game experince.

I’m in the same boat. What’s crazy is we might be just a few weeks away from O being the toast of LA. Seems unthinkable now with such a high % of the fan base giving him no shot of being a winner at LSU. But what if the best case scenario happens? It’s weird to think we might be in the final days of this period of skepticism toward O by the fans.

Whelp, it's all in O's hands. He alone can control the narrative, given the talent level of his team.

Only two other teams on our schedule have recruited better than LSU over the past 4 years.

So, you want them to play a conservative game because of that. Okay. And learn to read, I didn't say anything about mistakes in LSU's passing game, I said getting Miami in a lot of trouble with penalties called on their secondary.

I think they should do what the coach thinks they do best. I was going off of your comment of mistakes happening in the first game and then suggesting to throw the ball because of that.

do not be shocked if O makes slinger go conservative as shite early on to play it safe and avoid early TO's and bad field position for the D. I think O will have to see if we can control the ball passing before he lets slinger do what he wants. do not be shocked.

I ran into Slinger last weekend and he said it's gonna be an aggressive offense

That wouldn't shock me in the least. Like I said, a transfer QB that wasn't here in the spring running a new offense with very little playing experience at almost every position.

I can understand the thinking of trying to make the defense make plays and see if you can catch them out of position in the first game of the year. I'm not sure Orgeron is that type of aggressive coach though.

I just don’t see how anyone could be so confident

I believe the word was "optimistic", not confidence. huge difference.

quote:

our HC and OC are both proven failures at their current positions.

what you don't understand is that your statement does not matter nor is it relevant. THEY are in their present positions and they have another chance at success. that is a fact and crying about it does nothing, nada. what you probably don't understand is that many successful people have failed at previous jobs and or endeavors. the most notable I can think of off the top of my head is Abraham Lincoln but there are many others.

I look at things a little differently than I did when I was a young man. I have witnessed a lot of failure by businessmen that eventually become very successful. there is a point where the past is just that; the past. now, i'm not saying Orgeron will be a huge success because I don't know. last year showed me he is much better now that at Ole Miss. if not for the suspensions and injuries on the LOS in the beginning of last year he would have had a fairly good year. due to my experience and my observation I am "hopeful" and somewhat "optimistic" that this will be a good year and O will continue to recruit and has a successful career at LSU. but I have seen it turn to shite for mike archer, jerry Stovall, curly hallman and Gerry denardo so I will not be surprised if it happens again.

If Burrow is any better than Etling was, which isn't an extremely high barometer

Being better than an NFL draft pick isn't a high barometer?

FWIW, Etling was better in 2016 than Mett was in 2012, and would have been A LOT better in 2017 than Mett was in 13 if he had OBJ and Landry to throw to.

A strong case can be made that he would have matched or surpassed Mett's 2013 production last year if he had equal attempts.

Etling was one of the two best quarterbacks at LSU in the past decade. To throw for 200 YPG, 60% completions and only throw 2 picks the entire year compared to 16 TDs is pretty damn efficient.

Dude, seriously? Mett was a better QB than Etling. You're nutts if you think otherwise.

Don't even get me started with statistics. Mett could have achieved much more if not held back by Miles' conservatism. And stats don't ever tell the full story. Look at Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson... They both had pretty "efficient" seasons at LSU and could barely sniff an NFL team.

Not with this schedule. There are 7 games that will be very difficult to win. I think we lose 5 of them based on the weaknesses of the offense alone plus head coach.

Defense is too good

If we go 8-4 it's going to be a let down

I say jump all over them from the get go so that Miami can't get into a comfort level. Mix it up good with short easy throws to start the game, force Miami to cover underneath, then go over the top on them.

Mix in some runs and PA along the way and never let Miami get comfortable. Yes they have talent back there but that talent can get beat. We have a staff behind the scenes now who can find every players weakness to exploit. Use that to our advantage and put the pedal to the metal. Use the run game to throw them off. Our OL is coming along and I think we have the better OL coach in this matchup.

We have some big arse dudes with some good depth behind them who are young but talented. LSU just needs to keep stacking up the talent at QB/OL/DL/LB and this team will be in the hunt for the playoffs very soon! GT

Exactly.

I’ll treat this year as if I was from Missouri.

SHOW ME

For a long time, I've entered each season cautiously optimistic. This year, my optimism has been somewhat muted. Though I must admit, this last week with Fulton getting reprieve and the general excitement leading up to the first game, I am getting a little irrational about my excitement you fat bastard!

Every year, it's like this for me to some degree. 2011 was probably the crescendo, but 2012 was pretty high up there as well.

The OL will be just fine. We are in much better shape there than a year ago and last year’s OL was pretty solid.

Yeah, no! Last year our oline got their shite pushed in by good defenses. This year our oline is probably a little better, but it’s not good enough to be a contender, not unless this defense is 2011 good. Maybe it will be. Our chance to have a good offensive line left when our only really good lineman left - Ingram.

Been a while since we had a defense like this, with depth. Unless we have a disaster of an offense, this should be a salty team. Especially if the kicker is as advertised.

No, he wasn’t. He had a lot more upside, but his lows were bad. Remember the Ole Miss loss? Etling never lost us a game like that. If I had to choose one I’d take Etling.
