I think this argument is absolutely ridiculous.
In this hypothetical situation/alternate universe, if Oregon was in the south they would be in the heartland of football
are you a fricking retard? No one means if the state of Oregon was in the South. They mean if Oregon competed in the SEC. Jesus
Well that is a moot point. Why the hell would a team travel that far week in and week out. That idea, kind sir, is pretty retarded to even contemplate in the first place.

Not really true. Ole miss has sec talent and look what heppen. Uga has sec talent and look what happen. You got to put in the work week in and week out, regardless of who u are playing.

You did whatch LSU'S passing game, right?

Oregon would not be crushed in this year's SEC. It's nothing special this year outside of 2 teams Bama and LSU. BYU, Utah St., East Carolina, and Boise disagree that Oregon would be crushed in the SEC especially this year. Especially when compared to it's past standards the SEC is going to struggle this year. Ole Miss, Auburn, and Georgia for starters are just not very good. LSU should dominate the conference except maybe 1 or 2 close games or we underachieved again. No more excuses and no more 2nd place SEC West finishes.

I appreciate your sentiments, but logic over rules you.
None of them are Nike U; they don't have a tenth of the resources that we do at their disposal.
And I didn't come up with this argument. I'm simply responding as to how silly it is.

I watched Lee lob a pass vertically to Peterson over the entire secondary that got us 1st and goal. I also watched Lee hit the receivers' hands vertically in a perfect spot, they didn't hold on to it.
Yes, I watched in person in section 421.

All good, well reasoned points. Over time, particularly with your Nike sponsorship, your program would probably do well in the competition for recruits and quality coaches, so you'd probably do well in the long term.
Where SEC schools get riled up is when a PAC-10(12?) team, or one from another conference, oh, I don't know, let's say the Mountain West, claims they should be in the BCS championship game over a one loss SEC team (or even a two loss SEC west team)..... The schedule is brutal, and in any given year, I'd say the one loss SEC team deserves the shot over the undefeated teams from most other conferences (save the Big 12 or occasionally the Big 10, but only in strong years in each of those). Make sense?
Either way, good game and best of luck for the rest of the year - and kick USC's arse!

You are also assuming the NCAA is going to slam you guys for WIllie Lyles. Phill Knight is the only reason yall are not already on probation. Before you say it, yes, LSU may have some Lyles stink on them too.

Its hard to stay domiannt, lsu, uf, bama, and now auburn will all have had mediicre seasons following winning the bcs championship.

quote:Ohhhh. So you want to pick and choose which factors to bring along from the real world and which ones you want to completely change? How convenient. Again, there is an immeasurable number of variables that come into play if you want to bring them in. Nobody is ever bringing them in when they make the statement you described. It's merely a hypothetical about how this team would do against an SEC schedule, not factoring travel, recruiting location, or anything else. It's a hypothetical. You're trying to discredit a hypothetical with a totally different one of your own.
Neither of them are Nike U.
ETA: I don't think Oregon would get crushed in the SEC. I'm just pointing out that your method of attacking the notion is misguided.

It's just a matter of time before Oregon crosses that "elite" threshold. If you wanna become one of the big boys, you first have to take some lumps from the teams on top. I also feel like Oregon doesn't quite get the fan, alumni, and booster support that they would get if they were located in the South, but I am amazed at the way Phil Knight almost single-handedly made UO a nationally relevant program. Oregon will be just fine this year.

In your scenario, you wouldn't be in bed with Nike and your football program might resemble Kentucky or Vanderbilt instead of LSU, Bama, or Florida.
not my scenario.
and we're not "in bed with Nike". Phil Knight is an alum and a booster. Why would he not sponsor our program? We don't take Nike U as an insult, we're proud to say he's an Oregon alum. The "nike whore" comments are so stupid.
Knight has also given a nice chunk of Nike stock to the University of Oregon so that they will continue to receive funding long into their future. Great alum who loves his school.

Phil Knight in person looks like a child molestor. I was standing five feet away from him thinking to myself, "THIS GUY is the CEO of Nike?!?!?!"
Posted on 9/5/11 at 11:45 am to QuackAttack716
Another problem Oregon would have is depth. Their first guys are pretty good but the guys behind him are underwhelming to say the least. James would be a complimentary back at a school like Bama, LSU, or Auburn and Barner would get maybe 3-4 carries a game. MAYBE.

well yes, i'd think that we keep our alumni base and traditions as a track program. unless you are making the argument that phil knight would have never gone there.
Maybe instead of Oregon I should have said Nike U. If it wasn't for him then we wouldn't have players like James or Thomas...we would be Washington State.

I always thought the whole point of such a 'what if' argument, was putting a West Coast team AS IS in the S.E.C. Of course, it's ridiculous breaking it down as you envision.
