I’m sorry, what exactly is the expectation for a high level college CF? A healthy Gio could easily be a 0.340 hitter with plenty of doubles and a few triples. And he can do that at the top of a lineup. He’s the best defensive CF we have too. I don’t get where y’all are coming from here as if that hamstring had zero effect on him.

This is neither here nor there, but it combines the two most recent baseball threads on this board.

Gio is the last guy on the roster to commit to LSU before Cannizaro left. He is joined by Dugas and Cade Doughty as the only remaining guys to commit before the switch.

ETA: I previously said Beloso instead of Cade Doughty, that was in error. Beloso was committed to Tulane and then switched to LSU sometime after Cain became the RC.

I like Gio a lot, reminds me a lot of Andrew Stevenson. His hammy injury was definitely a factor this year because it kept him from getting into a rhythm offensively. Him being healthy for the Tenn super *could have* made a difference for us

He’s a career .292/367/.380 hitter

That’s a long way from an “easy” .340

He’s fast but he plays an average CF. Doesn’t have great instincts tracking balls. His arm is a zero.

He can be upgraded. But if you trot out a strong lineup he wouldn’t stick out as much.

Putting the whole career together is disingenuous Lester and you know it. He went from hitting 0.275 as a freshman, 0.351 in a shortened 2020 and 0.308 on a leg and a half. The increased productivity is there. A 0.340 projection I think is reasonable based on those numbers. You want to look at every career average of hitters who hit over 0.340 as juniors and seniors? Because I bet theirs is around 0.300 too thanks to less than stellar freshman and Sophomore seasons.

I'd love to see Beloso have a good summer, then come back here and compete for a spot. But, he may want to have a talk with Andy if he wants to finish his career on the field.

I mean I think he can hit .315-.320 over a season but I don’t think he’s a .340 guy adding in 30 SEC games

So 7 of his 13 hits came vs. Umass Lowell, got it. I like Gio but we could use a top of the order upgrade in CF.

.320 isnt bad

LSU has had 3 guys to hit .340 in the last 5 full seasons

Crews
Morgan
Josh smith

Antoine Duplesis for instance never hit higher than .328

So I mean .340 is kinda bold for a .292 hitter thru 300ABs

With all due respect to Pearson, I've heard alot of good things about Stevenson. As I said before, Drost and Sanford have to turn the corner if they're going to be the guy to replace Dugas and/or Gio next year. Pearson and Stevenson are better defenders than Drost and Sanford, so Drost and Sanford better become more complete at the plate.

Well if you want to settle on these BS seasons for LSU then keep wanting players like that. LSU will not be great again until they raise there talent level from pitchers who can actually break a window with a pitch or have more than a damn fastball. They will not be great until they have a catcher who can do more than block a pitch. And they will not be great until the 7, 8, and 9 hitter can get on base so your all American stud batting in the one hole can drive some runs home. Retarded is your belief that Gio is good, he is average at best and should be playing at McNeese and not LSU. Forgive me but I long the days of studs throughout the lineup.

None of this has to do with Gio.

I’ll give you that Lester. Better arguments than his career average at least. Not many guys have hit over 0.340 lately but I believe Gio is capable. If anything, showing that so few have hit that well lately, proves Gio is good enough even hitting in the low 0.300s. I’m interested to see what he can do with a full season healthy.

I’ve seen Pearson play several times. Granted it was against high school pitching, but I was very impressed with him.

I’m sure he’s good. That wasn’t really my point. Hope we get him.

If he didn’t K so much I’d could maybe see it

Free swinger with his speed & bat to ball ability, sure

Free swinger w/speed but swing & Miss, eh, I don’t think
