1. Where would the program be as a whole?
2. Who could have been his replacement?
3. Would we have garnered another natty?

Looking at the list of coaches hired in 2013 I’d say no to the natty.

I was digging into this the other day. This was going into the Mettenberg/OBJ/Landry/Hill season. So we were loaded with talent, especially offensively. Some coaches that were available or just hired were: malzahn, Kingsbury,Petrino, sarkesian. Im pretty sure Jimbo wouldve come that season, even though they were on the verge of his NC at FSU. So we couldve stumbled into a pretty good offensive coach to pair with that talent and might have been awesome. I think the job wouldve been in demand because of the talent in place, we were still neck and neck with Alabama at that point, (remember we split in 2011, had them beat and blew it at the end in 2012) Charlie Strong was hired at texas that year as well. The schools rep wouldve taken a hit, but I think the decline doesnt happen if Miles is let go when he shouldve been. He went on a streak of losing 3+ every year after this, while getting more stubborn, more smug, and more annoying.

edit: James Franklin, Chris Peterson, derek mason all hired in 2014 if we had to do an interim for a year.
others of note from 2013: Butch Jones, Bert belema, tommy Tuberville, Mark Stoops, Matt Rhule. So maybe we dodged some bullets in there too.

Yes because we still would have had Joe Burrow in 2019.

I can confirm that i personally had a big role in helping recruit Burrow.

You think an athletic department that fricked up a coaching search so badly we had to hire Ed Orgeron would have done anything different in 2013?

Correct me if I am wrong, but it appears the email referencing Alleva's suggestion to fire Miles was in June of 2013. If that is correct, I doubt LSU would have gotten an outside hire to come in that late. In all likelihood Cam Cameron would have become the HC. What happens after that, who knows? FAR too many variables. Maybe James Franklin gets hired after the 2014 season (that's when PSU hired him)

Exactly my thought. If LSU got an innovative offensive guy who knows what would’ve happened

Not if we fired Les for sexual harassment.

We'd need a guy with no baggage in that area.

Dabo Swinney would be our head coach right now. He was just starting to get going with Clemson at that time and I think we would have had a good shot at stealing him from Clemson

The Taylor Porter report came out on May 15, 2013. In it, LSU's counsel provided the results of its investigation, provided its legal opinion regarding the facts under the law, and advised LSU that there was no cause to terminate Miles under the terms of his contract.

Miles was not going anywhere in 2013.

Alleva's email where he made his case to fire Les is dated June 21st, 2013. Cam would have been interim. Sorry if that doesn't make for fun what if scenarios.

Yeah but a shitty hire in 2013 could have been Dabo who was still a couple years away from anything really noteworthy

Listen guys. Les and O both have won NC here. This proves that any chimp in a spacesuit who can recruit can win big - even if it’s only sporadic. I’m pretty sure any of the coaches named here could have put together a nice staff and a modernized offense and won bigger than either Miles or O. We’ve only had a true RPO non-relic offense for one year- (2 if you count this season- but IMO E was really iffy a lot in his play calls). It’s crazy to think what we could have had offensively over the last 12 years or so with a coach that just understood the modern aspects.
