I mean, Stansbury had 2 more NCAA appearances but more seasons at State than Brady at LSU. Stans also never got past the first weekend while Brady obviously had a Sweet 16 team and a Final 4 team. One could argue Stans had more consistency. I'd argue that there's no real discernible difference between the two. LSU basketball doesn't need a retread that was fired from State

I don't see LSU paying its Basketball coach more than its football coach.
Steve Forbes is doing an amazing job at ETSU. Coaches under Pearl and Marshall.
Also, I would make a run at Brad Underwood at OSU if Alleva decides to spend some money. He is a great coach.

He won the SEC 3 times (tourney and season) he won 2 SEC tourneys, no LSU coach has ever done that. He was more consistant than Brady and yes Brady had deeper runs in the NCAA but Stansbury won 2 SEC tourneys so their tourney success is very close.
Stansbury also had a team finish ranked 2nd nationally. The big difference is Stansbury did it at Miss St. Who had not won the SEC since 1963 until he did it. He's Also a far better recruiter than Brady and he recruits our home state better than anyone nationally.

We'd all love Gregg Marshall and should call him. But he isn't coming here.
I know he's having a tough year, but I still like Dana Ford as an up and coming coach.
Unfortunately, Alleva will take the easy way out and hire Stansbury.

I don't think Stansbury ever had a team finish second nationally how would that work if he never made it past the first weekend? I think you're thinking of Richard Williams. Brady won the SEC twice... again in less seasons. And I'd say he recruited better (no matter where the talent was being funneled from)

Hiring a young and up comer is way too risky the odds would be overwhelmingly stacked against us and we can't afford to take that chance. We need a proven SEC winner someone who can bring consistency and stability and who also can recruit our state. Stansbury is the coach who fits exactly what we need. So yes he is the correct answer. If all teams had to do was pick a hot mid major coach and hire him everybody would do it and turn their team around. Ask Texas how their can't miss mid major hire is doing. And I promise you we can't nearly get the cream of the crop in that scenario. Stansbury wants the job which is half the battle.

I'm just going to say it. Stansbury never finished second in the nation where is this coming from? Do you mean they were a two seed one year and then choked to a 7?

I bet a lot of washed up retreads want the job. Maybe we can offer it to Dave Odom or John Pelfrey while we are at it

His wiki page said he finished ranked number 2 overall in 03-04 my bad his page has incorrect info or a typo. Still 26-4 (ranked 8th overall) is pretty good. And no nobody els has said they want the job. Btw none of those coaches or any of our coaches not named Brown have won as much as he has. And none recruit our state as well as he does.

Dan Muller of Illinois State.
Too bad we didn't go after Musselman when he was here. I would definitely give him a call though.

I would like Tony Bennett from Virginia

i'm on the stansbury train as well. he'd probably have us in the ncaa tournament every other year at worst, which is about the expectation level i have for LSU basketball.

I wouldn't complain about Stansbury but I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone talk about Kermit Davis. It took him a few years to figure out how to be a HC but the last 6 years he's proved he can win. With his connection to LSU I think he'd be a great hire as well.

I would love the coach from Wichita State!
He won't leave WS for the same reasons Fisher didn't want to leave FSU to come here.

Kevin Keatts from UNC Wilmiington...dont want some retread.. this job SHOULD attract quality candidates. UK is the only team you really have to be concerned with...Be competitive with UK, get a conference title every 3rd or 4th year, make the damn tournament on a regular basis(finish 2nd-4th in conf) and you're loved. throw in an elite 8 or final four and you're legend.

At this point, anybody is a better option than JJ so the idea of hiring an up and coming coach is not bad at all. We could even bring Les back to coach the bb team to save $ from his buyout and he would do a better job than JJ.
