and where did that talent come from?

I never incenuated it didn't come from DiNardo. I was agreeing with the quoted post that stated DiNardo did leave a stocked roster for Saban.

I also remember that Joe Dean wanted to nickel and dime the Saban contract and Emmert said pay the man

I have had this "What if he had stayed at Miami" conversations with my fellow LSU-Saints fans. If he got Brees at Miami it would also have meant no Super Bowl for the Saints and without that, most likely they would have moved to San Antonio.

He had to give the NFL a try once at least. He had background there and an NFL head coach job is probably the dream for a lot of college coaches.

Just my opinion, but I don't think LSU would have taken Saban back at that point unless he crawled on his hands and knees down Highland Road shouting "Shame, Shame, Shame" as penance for ever leaving LSU in the first place.

I agree with this. I mean they didn't take him back. I was making the point that knowing what we know now the decision to take him back would be a good one no matter the cost.

FWIW, I agree with you. I just don't think LSU would have made that move. In fact, I think I remember the general hope that Miles would dominate Bama with Saban there for the double-bonus: shaming Saban for daring to leave LSU, and keeping Bama at a lower tier than LSU.

We all know how that worked out, so hindsight would logically say it would have been better if we'd welcomed Saban back. But it didn't happen.

Saban was so great he became bigger than the game itself. He led a Dynasty the likes of which we will never see again. What pisses me off is that he should’ve been ours and it should’ve been an LSU Dynasty. He could easily have won 6 to 8 national championships here. He became one of us and he realized the biggest mistake he ever made in life was leaving Louisiana and it’s culture.

frick Skip Bertman, frick him.

Pretty crazy to think of the “what ifs” when it comes to legendary coaches and LSU.

- What if Saban never leaves for the NFL.
- What if LSU hires Steve Spurrier in 1986 instead of promoting Archer.
- What if Bobby Bowden takes the job in 1979.

Nick is my favorite LSU Coach, even though it was a short run. I'm not bitter he went to Bama. I hate that he did, but I don't hold it against him.

Saban was a better coach after his stint in Miami. While at LSU there was always a possibility that he would go to the NFL. After bombing at Miami he went to Alabama and was more committed to college football. There’s no guarantee that he would have won additional NCs. There’s no point in going down that road because it doesn’t matter now.

You do understand Fred "I can't count higher than 20 cause that's all the fingers and toes I got" Orgeron won a title at LSU, right???

But I guy that has almost 300 wins as a college HC won't win a couple if he stays at that same LSU at least 10 years?

Care to change your giggling to agreeing? Or do you still think a competent HC can't wreck blank at LSU?
