I watched the QBs in the NFL playoffs this weekend.....

What came to mind was the fakes, the stutter steps,the delay fake then pass, the double pumps, the screens, the looking to one side and throwing to the other.
Is there some reason a college QB can't be taught to do those things?
Just wondering. Anybody?

The brain chemistry of humans under the age of 22 makes all of that physically impossible.

that and only a few do it, and that is why they get drafted.

Being an NFL veteran helps too. It takes time to learn all of these little things.

why can't high school kids be taught what college kids know?
Because they're two different levels and takes a massive amount of experience.
Anything can be done, but name a coach that has done it? I mean, if it's been done then a college QB could come right into the NFL and put up Peyton Manning numbers, no?

I guess I'm so used to reading this board and subtle jabs at Mile, I take everything as if that's what the post means.
I took your post as if LSU were not coaching kids anything above high school mechanics, plays, etc. etc.

Ok, but then maybe someone can enlighten us all on what exactly a QB coach does. Seems to me that part of his job would be to teach the QB to perform in a way that will confuse and disrupt the defense by (see first post on this thread)so that the offense is able to move the ball forward successfully.

it's extremely, extremely rare to see on the college level for a lot of reasons. Usually takes more practice/film time that college allows, takes unusual maturity, usually need lots of game action, high level coaching, pro-style offense, etc.

Those are also the TOP QBS IN THE COUNTRY AFTER MANY YEARS OF THE TOP COACHING IN THE COUNTRY. It kinda like saying any business major could CEO a major corporation.

You can't compare college quarterbacks, to pro quarterbacks.
One guy is a less mature, part-time student-athlete, who has never played or been coached at the professional level; the other guy is the cream of the college crop, more mature, and has played and been coached at the professional level. There are nuances to the pro game that no college QB can really grasp, until he's played in a pro system; not to mention the speed of the game is much faster.

In defense of college QBs and their coaches, you were watching veteran QBs who are some of the best in the NFL and/or 1st rounders and present/former pro bowlers.
Palmer- 1st round, pro bowl?
Warner- NFL MVP, pro bowl, 3 super bowls
Rodgers- 1st round, pro bowl
Romo- pro bowl
McNabb- 1st round, pro bowl
Brady- MVP, pro bowl, mulitiple super bowl wins
Flacco- 1st round
Sanchez- 1st round (even though they still pretty much have the reigns on him)
That being said, Crowtong is an AWFUL QB coach and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near our QBs anymore. Sure Lee and Jefferson were yound and thrown in to stressful situations, but neither improved on the parts of their game they lacked for entire seasons. That's mostly on the QB coach IMO. I'm not expecting NFL playoff QB type improvement but give us something at least.

Takes a player wanting it...to improve his play on the field,...there are camps specifically for improving foot work....WON'T mention what player for LSU really needs this...

I've seen some slick college QBs do these things, but for the most part it's not necessary at the college level, where a fast receiver and an accurate arm are enough to beat a decent defense. Obviously, the fellas you watched this weekend were among the best of the best -- and the cast didn't even include Manning, Brees, Favre and Rivers. But you had Brady, Warner, Romo, Rodgers, McNabb, Palmer, Flacco and Sanchez on display. The playoffs just seem belong to the premier quarterbacks. That thing between Warner and Rodgers late Sunday afternoon was beyond description.

The young man has to have the desire and a coach that knows how to teach.
For example, the Mannings vs the Booty's. Both dads were college quarterbacks. Peyton and Eli stepped on campus knowing the fundamentals. Josh, when he came to LSU, according to news reports, only knew how to work from the shotgun.
Name a HS coach or dad that has the knowledge of fundamentals as does Archie.
I seriously doubt JJ ever had intense instruction on quarterback fundamentals. His play depends on natural ability.

Yep.
See Boise St the last couple of years.
QB's there must be at least 200 IQ according to some of our posters....
It takes discipline and attention to details...and a little coaching.
