I totally understand the Hunter Dean skepticism, but before you write him off

LSU will be better than last year, but still suck complete arse
Posted on 5/9/23 at 8:41 am to king47
how does such an athletic 6'10 big only avg 8/6 playing in the A10?

I think we can double our SEC wins for next year possibly.

Yeah I'm sure a bunch of G5 transfers are going to compete in the SEC. Seems like we tried that last year. McMahon is a joke.

EXPECTATIONS
If you are expecting him to come in and be an impact player along the lines of KJ Williams then you may as well not even watch because that is unlikely to occur.
But if you are willing to accept he is a very experienced player (this will be his 5th season) with size and the ability to potentially give you 10-15 solid mpg off the bench, then it is not a terrible pick up.

He averaged 27 minutes a game last year .
Maybe if he averaged 32-35 minutes a game his averages would be better.
I have no idea , just looking for a glimmer of hope.

Actually, quite the opposite.
LSU's best player, KJ Williams, was a mid-major transfer and second team All SEC. The others were Hill, Hannibal, and Coleman. That's only 4 "G5" players on a team of 13. Also, for the sake of correctness, there is no "G5" in college basketball.
And you can compete with mid-major players in the SEC. Missouri, with a first year HC, proved that. Their roster had 3 players from Cleveland St, one from Milwaukee, one Missouri St, one from Northern Iowa, along with two JUCO players. That's 8 of 12 (they didn't have 13 scholarship players last year) that were non-major conf. players/recruits. They reached the NCAAT after going 11-7 in SEC play.
Here, LSU is brining in two guys, Cook and Stewart, who were 1st team all conference players in two very solid conferences...The AAC, which also has Houston, Memphis and others, as well as the WCC, which is home to Gonzaga, St. Mary's and others.
Does that mean LSU will be good, or even better next season? No. But to say this is nothing but a bunch of crappy "G5" transfers is disingenuous. Hell, two "G5" teams, with "G5" players were in the Final Four this past season.

I don’t know why people would complain. He’s better than Reed and plays above the rim.

I was expecting to see a slow, stiff guy with few moves and little rim protection. That is not what I just saw in the linked highlight vid.

Stop with ridiculously high expectations. 4 SEC wins is crazy talk. Lol

I’m surprised we haven’t looked at more juco guys, or international players

He was very average for a 6'9"ish kid at Lakeshore. I'm sure he's gotten better and stronger but he never dominated any team I saw.

He understands the pick and roll. He is aggressive when he gets the ball in the paint and he looks like he can play some defense and and you can't teach height. I think he and Baker give us 2 good big men. Not great but good. But the juvenile negativity on here is pathetic.

So he’s a little better than the Tuba in Trent’s days lol the McMen are pathetic

All of our transfers have come from very solid basketball conferences. This isn’t bringing in a bunch of small school players like Coleman from Northwestern St. These players all came from conferences that are usually multiple bid leagues that usually have a number of teams better than the bottom half of the SEC. Does that mean they will be good here? That remains to be seen but let’s at least be honest when discussing the additions

I think his highlights look fabulous. Tough solid kid.

Is he a grad transfer? This is his second transfer. I didn't realize that until I looked him up just now. I am not certain what the rules are in basketball and if they are different than football, though.
