I thought I heard that the LSU offense did not sub any players for 28 plays straight.

For the SEC Championship game against UGA.

Is that true? Anyone hear the same?

If so, the pressure that puts on defenses in terms of substitution for early down personnel versus 3rd down personnel is enormous.

Kirby mentioned something like that in a post game interview. Gave LSU huge props for it, saying how difficult it is for defense in that situation.

He’s specifically using it as a negative recruiting tactic to flip Burton, saying we don’t rotate WRs most of the game

It is what I always found most disturbing about the Miles offenses, personnel groups were predictable with down and distance. This offense has no idea, can have three wides a tailback and TE in tight, bunch formations, or Clyde and Moss split wide and go empty.

Just the physical limitations of the defense with no subs, but the personnel packages just can't defend the whole field all night.

I don't know how a kid that's confident in his abilities would take that pitch seriously. Why wouldn't Burton just think "who cares, I'll be the one on the field."

Agree. If I’m that kid, I’m thinking he’ll yeah I’ll be in for 28 straight plays

I think the biggest factor is CEH’s ability to line up anywhere on the field and be effective.

agreed. It made game planning against us that much easier. All you had to do was chart the personnel swaps to formations and then plays and you then had some pretty strong tendencies.

You can't avoid it all the time (e.g. goal line or short yardage), but it worked against us at many spots on the field, for almost the whole 60min.

You have to have versatility in the players to do it. Which we always had the skill players to do it. But versatility has another half to it- they had to be coached how to do it.

That's why the further in the season we went you started seeing Moss all over the place, Marshall/Chase in the backfield, CEH split out wide. It took a good chunk of the season to get them all coached up to do that at the drop of a hat.

It's just one more reason to tip-the-cap to the staff.

Ok, the fourth leading receiver for UGA had 13 catches. Our fourth leading receiver is Terrence Marshall with 37 catches, Moss had 38.....and then McMath had 15....Dillon had 13.

If Kirby is even talking bout the LSU offense to an offensive player of any position he is an idiot.

Thad Moss really helps us do this because he is such an effective blocker on the line and can break out wide.

i didn’t take the 28 number literally.

maybe it was mean that way, but i took as Kirby saying it was a LOT of consecutive plays without subbing.

Maybe Kirby is trying to justify that arse kicking.
Last year 36-16
This year 37-10

Not only that you had to give them enough opportunities to make a play. If you have a drop on 2nd and 6 that cost a first down, you can convert on third.

We wouldve run then forced the play to be made on 3rd. It just put too much emphasis on everything being perfect to work. You have to give your guys enough shots. Next year with Brennan they will have to tolerate some bad plays, we just wont see another Burrow year ever.

I would love to see us in hurry-up but

1. feign the hurry-up by staying in 3pt stance

2. and snap the ball w 5. seconds left on 1st and second down

3. Then start mind tricking them with snaps at 35 seconds then 5 Seconds

I would think that would be a penalty causer for a tired defense.

It doesn’t allow them to substitute.

He can line up on the field anywhere and be effective because he is really good at catching the ball.

I wonder if CEH practices WR drills on the jugs machine after regular practice?

His ability to catch is going to pay major dividends in his draft stock.
