Alabama and Florida.

Let’s think it out- Scott Woodward mentioned that in the case 2 games get nixed due to covid, the game that’s more relevant to the conference championship takes precedence.

If we’re at the end of the season and Florida has 1 loss and Alabama has none, both of them would prefer not to play and considering LSU is the common denominator, how on earth do you fairly tell Alabama or Florida they have to play and the other doesnt?

I can see LSU being scheduled against another team that lost a game at home to help recoup some money.

Thoughts?

LSU doesn't currently have a product worth putting on the field

Assuming AL gets cancelled, the only way LSU will play is if one or the other loses a game and the LSU game is needed to determine the div championship.

Do stupid shite, win stupid prizes. Games should be forfeited just for the amount of stupidity on display. For God's sake, is there any leadership in this program?

if a second game is rescheduled it's the one that matters to the standings

Could easily do that.

We go 4-4, win the bowl game. Finish 5-4 with a New Orleans bowl ring!

I think the end of the season is in serious jeopardy right now. Once hospitals start getting overwhelmed again they will shut everything down in a heartbeat.

The UF game has nothing to do with Bama. It has everything to do with UGA. If UGA and UF are tied inthe East then UGA will demand that UF play LSU

He said the game that’s more relevant to the standings will take precedent. Which is a minor distinction, but worth pointing out because UF and Bama are in opposite divisions.

In a “normal” year with an 8-game conference schedule, only teams who “have played and completed all eight scheduled conference games” are eligible for the division title. I haven’t been able to find what the SEC’s new policy is for the 10-game COVID season, but if they stuck with the previous rule, 8-2 UGA would go to Atlanta over a 7-1 UF team that beat UGA head-to-head.

Further, it would mean that if Bama and UF both had games against LSU postponed, whichever team didn’t play LSU would not be eligible to compete for the SEC championship.

I have to assume the SEC considered this possibility, so what happens if they dropped the requirement that teams play all scheduled conference games?

Florida has a 1-game lead over UGA plus the head-to-head tiebreaker, but UGA has the easier remaining schedule. If Florida drops a game between now and 12/12, they will both have two losses. Here’s where things get interesting: by rule, the division title is actually determined by winning percentage. This means that 8-2 UGA (80%) would win the division over 7-2 UF (78%) even though UF beat UGA head-to-head. It wouldn’t go to the head-to-head tiebreaker, because it’s not a tie.

The Big 10 accounted for this in their rules by saying that if two teams have the same number of losses but different numbers of games played, it goes to the head-to-head tiebreaker. But I’m not sure whether the SEC did the same.

Lastly, even if the SEC did account for that possibility, you can bet that UGA will be raising hell if Florida has the same number of losses but didn’t have to play LSU. I think the chances of neither game (UF or Bama) being played are slim to none.

Whatever helps Alabama most is the answer. Anything else, doesn't matter. Lost revenue, impact to championships, playoffs, bowl games etc.

Bama will benefit, bet the farm.
