That brings up a totally new set of questions, then.

Yes I agree. It’s just hard to know nowadays what’s going on with the program as far as roster management.

That actually brings up questions that we don’t want to answer and I don’t really want to be the one to ask them.

By far and away his most glaring weakness.

A few weeks back, some poster made the statement, O couldn't build a good staff.

Then Kelly went out and hired as many of the O staff as were available. He didn't hire O's Special Teams Coach and we are still weak there.

I will agree he made bad choices on last years staff. The current staff is elite in my opinion. The hero by many on here, Ed O, made bad hires too. Miles made several bad hires. The goat himself made some bad hires at Alabama.. BK must improve having the team ready to play. BK will do just fine.

Say what you will about Ed O, his teams were willing to run thru a brick wall for him when he gave a shite.

we lost to troy when he was our HC and got blown out by Alabama 4/5 years.

Orgeron owes every penny to Joe Burrow.

He should name his sons Joe and Burrow. I know they’re grown. he should change their names.

Is that why O's team lost to Troy? They were so amped and ready to run through a wall...

He had them ready to play against Troy. Or when we went down to Auburn and took a miracle comeback at home. Facts are this.

This was Nuss’s first road start in the SEC. It took him a while to get his footing. Poorly coached teams don’t go down 17-0 and come back and win. And for all the talk about the penalties against SC, they got a free 7 points on the illegal blocked punt and 3 on the early snap. Even with all that if Nuss and the offense don’t sputter early LSU wins that game rather easily.

To me, he still knows way more about football coaching than Miles or Orgeron. But maybe he doesn’t know how to teach toughness.

He has the intellect our other coaches lacked, but lacks the cheerleader comrade in arms factor O and Miles brought.

Pre 2020, O was not a stupid coach. He had fundamentally sound teams, few pre snap penalties, and the most glaring issue when compared to Kelly, we had solid special teams. He fricked all of that away after 2019 of course

He lost all his staff…..Joe Brady left, Dave Aranda left (and Dave took some big DL talent with him). Coach O went down because LSU dried up the money….the money required to retain the staff and talent that took him to the natty…

He just hired the elite coaching staff defensively needed to put us on the right path this year. But we still lack the talent defensively to get to the top. Those players are now coming, just gonna be a year or two before they get here. But no one wants to hear thaf

I really believe that Blake Baker will turn the defense around. He just doesn't have a whole lot to work with talent-wise.

I think so too, there are lots of signs that defense can be good.

Joe Sloan should be demoted back to QB coach at season's end, and BK needs to bring in an experienced OC from another Power 5 program.

I honestly think Sloan was kept to maintain continuity in the scheme for Nussmeier, which has allowed him to look as sharp as he has.
That, and to keep the recruits he has coming in.

I do think we could do more with formations, it's good to see us occasionally go back under center. We need to do that more often. People love to bitch about Les and his Toss Dive, but that's the play I think Jackson would flourish in. Inside handoffs out of the Shotgun, he just doesn't get momentum; when he does he's a load.

I hear you on that.
But the coaches that cultivate toughness, tackling, hype etc are not getting it done this year.

I always thought Kelly to be a jerk. He’s now our jerk and his history is good to very good, but not indicative of championships.

He is restoring order to a program that was far off the rails with Ed O, but the process/alignment is slow, ugly and Kelly has made mistakes in managing staff, player prep and game management. His three year goal looks more like five years to me.

LSU needs more depth, talent and elite players on both sides of the ball. Recruiting has been good, but now it is incumbent on Kelly and the staff to start doing something great with them. I would like to see more toughness and discipline as well as that is a core element supporting championships.

The presser talk about “coaching better” is tiresome as that is obvious. Patience is necessary with Kelly given his contract and where he started this rebuild, but mediocrity isn’t what was envisioned when he was hired.

The OC. Don’t know his name. I think he promoted him because it was easy. I think he’s part of the problem with running game.

Kelly just isn't a fit with the lsu progrum and fan base and hes past his prime. Reminds me of parcells coaching the cowboys
