re: I know we’ve been burned on offseason hype before

We didn’t have to defend against a mobile QB in practice.
You're joking right? Do you know how scout team works? They had multiple players they went against in practice to give them the "mobile QB" look. Our struggling with mobile QBs had nothing to do with Garret being the starting QB. Blake has struggled with mobile QBs before he was our DC.

We will run the ball because the scheme on offense is just different.
I agree with you that Lane has a better scheme so we will have more success at running the football. However if the interior offensive line is not able to get a consistent push then against the best teams we will not be able to run the ball regardless of scheme or who is the running back.

Depth at CB has me worried. Confident our offense will be on the field more than last year - even if we go fast. Defense won't be on the field as much for the duration of the game hopefully. I just feel like we're asking a lot of D.J. and P.J.

If they stay healthy then I'm not worried because you don't typically sub out corners unless like last year you had 3 who were very good. We have some young pieces who will see some playing time but as long as they stay healthy I am very confident in them.
Ja'Keem Jackson and Finney Jr. are going to be fine. Now, the 6th DB in 3rd and long situations when we go to a Dime Defense will be interesting who we bring off the bench.

I love the excitement of the new season approaching but I also remember how many people were on this site moon pumping LSU, and blasting FLA St and UCLA saying they won't be able to run or throw against us, and they'll never cover our receivers and TEs. We were supposed to control both sides of the ball on the LOS. Just all the general pumping, which is fun stuff to do. I'll stay excited but reserve the sunshine pumping until I see a couple games. Then we can trash talk after we take care of a few teams.

There are 3 lingering questions that keep me from getting extremely hyped.
1. Can we stop a mobile QB? We've gotten gashed by running QBs the last several years have we made those adjustments?
This is the biggest Question to me. Baker still here. We've seen his defense.
Can they stop a mobile QB?
Can they get off the field on 3rd down?
Our Defense was always so gassed under BK because they were on the field more than the Offense.
So my follow up to this is
Can the Offense churn out some time by effectively running the ball?
But yes, on preseason paper, LSU looks to be in good shape this year.

I mean there are still plenty of questions. We have basically an entirely new OL. CB depth is a pretty major concern imo. We return one receiver on the entire roster. We are likely to have two freshman DL that seeing significant playing time.
There’s definitely reason for hope, but there’s still a ton of uncertainty.

Usually the better the talent the better the team. You can’t make chicken salad out of , you know .Bakers defenses have gotten better each season.Yhey are getting better players.

I just want to run the ball and play good defense. If we can do that I’m a happy camper. Our run schemes and OL coaching was dogshit under Brad Davis and company.

Lane's offense while being more productive and efficient is still an offense that scores quickly and runs a lot of tempo. Our defense is going to be on the field a good bit. The difference will be that we will not be relying on them to be perfect. I don't want people to fool themselves thinking our offense will have 90-100 plays and 40 minutes of possession. They will run a lot of plays but its tempo and quick scores which puts the defense back on the field (look at 2019). The biggest difference will be that they won't be relied on keeping teams to 17 points or less in order to win the game.
