I know Hurd hasn't been great, but it doesn't seem like he throws a bunch of pitches that are difficult for catchers. He just throws pitches that get hammered.

That was only the case his last outing. Before that, it was all about control. That’s why I was encouraged by Hurd’s outing last week. He had better control last week, but was hit hard. Maybe it’s coming around. I’m still holding out reasonable hope that Hurd gets it together. We just saw Floyd do it.

We are pretty much on the exact same page. If we have todays game in hand, I’d like to see him sub for Milazzo later on and let Milazzo rest some more.

I’m a big fan of rotating catchers, especially when you are blessed with multiple guys who can play it like LSU does.

Does he also play first base?
Our freshman first baseman hasn't had a hit since he last long HR or has he. Seems to strike out every at bat since. Maybe needs to sit a bit if Travinski can hit and play first.

100% agree.

I didn't mean to hammer him like I did. I think he's a solid backup catcher. I'd love to see him get some more appearances at the plate, it's just hard to fit him in this lineup when he's not starting at C.

That said, the situation with Neal (again, not sure) is also a problem. If he's going to be out much longer, I think it makes this situation a lot easier to manage for JJ. IMO, if that's the case, you HAVE to get Travinski more reps.

I really want him to succeed, though. I hope he proves me wrong about the defense.

Like many other players on this team, Travinski has a role and he played it perfectly yesterday. Today his role is a PH if needed.

He did a great job in the 9th inning. Guidry was burying some sliders in the dirt and Travinski was keeping them right in front. The runner on second was never able to advance, which was massive because he could have easily scored on that long second out to LF.

Agree. I was really surprised to be honest.

Both catchers had great games today.

How is he at first base? just asking ... I love Big Boy Jones 480 feet HRs at 1st, but he is striking out a lot.

Jones strikes out a lot but is still hitting well over 300.

Oddly enough the player getting squeezed out here in Neal.

Milazzo is out hitting him in SEC play and can provide better defense. Travinski offers way more power than Neal.

The one thing Neal has that they don’t is a left handed bat

Jones just needs a little coaching. He’s stepping out on all of his swings, like Milazzo. If they can make an adjustment for him he’ll be raking again.

I don't know anything about Travinski except what I read on Jeremy and he seems to have gotten some crap about his defensive play but he looked pretty good behind the plate.

You put him against Kentucky and what happens? ULL? I’m not sure how fast his pop time is or how strong of an arm he has. I think it just depends on the matchups. Ole Miss is not a running team.
