This is the year we are all expecting to lose the opener. Hope it means we win the opener for once.

We just have to stop scheduling these meat grinder first games. I just don't understand the reasoning. I know, the money and exposure. But if you lose, and we've proven we do that with regularity, It puts us too far behind the eight ball.

One thing I don’t see being mentioned much is that Sloan is gonna have to be better this season.

Hopefully he’s experimenting with new run concepts this offseason. Seems like last season he was trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

If o-line is an issue, we stand to lose a bunch of games. Really good college teams are stacked on both lines and have veteran quarterbacks. We have one of these. If our offensive line can protect, we'll be good. If not, looks for 3 or 4 losses.

O-line needs the WR equivalent to the 2019 summer of 10,000 catches with run blocking

Great analysis! Thanks for writing this up for those of us who don’t pay that close of attention during the off season! 2 things I get out of it- OL concerns: if they don’t pass protect Nuss won’t be consistently effective especially since he can’t run. It seems we only have one star at RB and if the OL can’t run block there goes the ball control.
Defense has been solidly upgraded it sounds like but they’ll need to gel quickly before the season ever starts. Since they are all new that will be a tall order. Realistically they’ll not truly come into their full capability until they’ve gotten a few games under their belt and that will translate into at least one early loss, maybe 2.

100% have to beat Clemson. A loss at Clemson would tell us all we need to know about this team, that they won't be able to win in the SEC.

Clemson was recently projected to have 6 first rounders, and they were at the five most important positions: QB, WR, CB, LT and Edge. The sixth was interior oline. We will be playing them on the road. A competitive game, won by Clemson on a last minute play, would be disappointing but tells me LSU is damn good.

It’s time for LSU to come in prepared with issues resolved. They say a team always improves after the first game. Somehow they must come up with this first game at practice. They must be the team they can be by Clemson.

Clemson has the same problem. I agree with your point that LSU has to be in better form than the past few openers, but LSU doesn’t have to be in second game form; they just have to be better than Clemson.

Until BK can have a team prepared for an opening game, I just expect 9-3 and hope for the best.

The problem with 9-3 is that it most likely starts 1-2 (with UF being our third toughest team…but that’s a big toss up).

Did that really make you laugh? No where did I say that Clemson was a bad team. But it gives you a loss that you need to be able to drop from an SEC team. Odds are you're going to drop two games in the SEC, and a loss to Clemson is the one that keeps you out of the playoffs.

Kind of crazy that you could look at Brian Kelly led LSU teams and think it's ok to drop the first game of the season.

10-2 with our schedule will get you a 1st round bye. Probably a 5 or 6 seed.

You said a lot to just add this tidbit in at the end and show you have no clue what you're freaking talking about. Glad I caught this prior to reading that massive wall of text.

ETA: 5 or 6 seed is not a first round bye and only way you get a bye is win the Conference. It's funny how many people that cannot comprehend this but they think they know CFB.

The pieces are all there. LSU pushed the chips to the middle of the table for 2025.

Can BK get the team motivated and the right culture? If we come out and lay an egg at Clemson, it could be a long season.

Devil’s advocate here. Brian Kelly has proven that he can’t get his team ready for an opener and we start out playing a very good Clemson team whose coach is better than Kelly.

Also, Kelly is getting a ton of hate from all over the U.S. on social media over the Greg Brooks/Ryan Clark situation. Might be a big distraction for him.
