Exactly. There is really no incentive for an SEC team to schedule any hard out of conference games. Your SEC slate speaks for itself.

I’d rather play a Big 12 or middle of the pack Big 10 team every year. Very winnable games that don’t hurt or help SOS.

USC was very winnable.

So was UCLA…I’m thinking like Texas Tech or Pudue.

SOS wins should be the gold standard for Playoff seeding. Several teams in the running haven’t even beat a current ranked team. This coupled with excessive pay & decommits is ruining CFB.

Tend to agree with you. I used to love tough opening games, but we used to be better prepared than we have been lately. It has been taking us awhile to get going these last 4 years. Maybe schedule a tougher game on week 2 and get the opening game yips over against a weaker opponent.

Agree but they are already scheduled for years in advance.

They have to shuffle out.

LSU starts with Clemson next year.

Kelly needs a tune up game to start the season.

Doesn’t matter; 8-4 or 9-3 LSU would not be in.

Think of the injuries we had playing USC. That cost us a lot, was it ‘worth it’ to lose talent for the season in a losing effort? I completely understand giving it your all to finish through a tough SEC schedule (and LSU’swasn’t the toughest) so why chance it with a season opening against a tough opponent? It’s when most of the injuries happen also. Playing USC thé LAST game of the season has a lot less hazard, even of same people were hurt

If our goal is to play in the playoffs each year, the strong opening game opponent, especially in their stadium, is counterintuitive. LSU plays plenty enough difficult SEC schedule and losing 2 games a season will probably get LSU in the playoffs, if that is our goal.
What is our goal for playing a tough opponent away from TS? I don't think it is to help LSU get to the playoffs, so I think it is clear, LSU should stop that immediately, even to get out of playing Clemson next year, if possible. I'm pretty sure they would like to not play LSU either.

So is Clemson coming to Baton Rouge next year?

By the way, I had a lot of fun last night! Any of yall in section 619? I was in row 3 and wearing OU sweatshirt with LSU hat. It was the most fun I've had interacting with fans at a game lol.

I don’t mid us playing a legitimate opponent early, but make it game 2. Schedule game 1 against a directional school to work out bugs.

What is it you see that gives you any confidence of a BK coached team beating Clemson at their stadium…in the first game of the season?

I’m sorry, but he has yet to win an opener and his teams continue to ill prepared.

Yeah if we hadn’t played USC we would be on the bubble right behind Bama. Instead we are unranked.
No we wouldn’t. We’d have fallen from top 5 to barely still ranked after that 3 game losing streak. Especially getting blown out at home by Bama and following up by looking like shite against 4-5 Florida.

We’d be ranked probably just ahead of another 9-3 SEC team who got embarassed by A&M and Bama…..Mizzou

Agreed because there is always an improvement from the first to the second game.

There is no reason to go out of your way to schedule a tough game anymore. None. I’d argue there was never any reason to, from a football perspective.

Ok. I thought about that.

But how much money would it cost to get out of the game (375K vs how much money we could make if we make the playoffs with revenue and TAF donation possibly $$$ millions.

But my mind has changed. We have more margin for error now and still can’t make it. Let’s take that opening game burden away.

This team did not miss the playoffs because we scheduled USC; we missed it because we suck. Even if we did not schedule USC, and everything played out the same, and we made the playoffs; we’d still have no chance at a natty because we suck.

I don't mind such games. I just want

1. a warm up first

2. and the CFP selection to give some weight to schedules and beating ranked teams.

Then I'm all in.
