These high profile games in big neutral sites are great for the team. They give the team big-time game experience. Great for the kids to get prepared to play in a bigger game down the road in the season... Like the SEC championship game followed by the BCS Championship game.

Boom.

And LSU wouldn't exist without the taxation bills that come from the state government in Baton Rouge. Something tells me that is why its located there, but I'm just spitballing.

Obviously. The point is, LSU already does MORE than enough for BR. A yearly big name neutral site game is within their right to schedule. It exposes the LSU brand to larger audiences. Football actually is a HUGE recruiting tool for students.

FIFY. People are so damn selfish. Stop thinking of it as you have to travel for a football game and rather as a great opportunity for Louisiana State University.

Why is LSU and other major universities so okay with doing this?

The fact that you ask this question shows how little you understand.

Football is the reason I chose LSU from out of state.

If it weren't for big games on TV and the like people in my shoes may never have come to LSU.

LSU does a lot for BR. Businesses and individuals who choose to support LSU do that by choice. They also get more business by doing so.

In BR if you call yourself Tiger ______ or decorate your business in purple and gold you will get more business. LSU existing does a lot for those businesses.

LSU baseball should host a regional and super every year because it helps businesses it he surrounding area. Hotels, restaurants, bars. Its summer time, BR is dead at this time! We should require LSU to host these games! (sarcastic last paragraph)

ETA: Notice also, as LSU gains popularity and the student body grows the surrounding BR area gets better. More apartments/condos, restaurants, better roads, all this stuff. OP isn't looking at big picture, only at the idea that we need one more home game so businesses can make more money for one week out of the year.

Ummmm.....wouldn't a top 10 matchup at home bring this anyway?

So, obviously, Les Miles needs more of these games to strategize. He hasn't played in enough of them to help him out down the road it seems.

Not when you're talking about a season kickoff game. There aren't going to be other big games going on I don't think.

Also, with it being the first game of the season it is incredibly popular. If it were two different teams (not LSU) it'd be huge still. Month-2 in advance advertising.

Each school will make plenty of money from this game. These games increase exposure beyond a usual home and home.

By being a part of something such as the "Cowboys Classic" it draws in other viewers because the game sounds special.

It also is huge for recruiting because how many teams can sell a chance to play at Lambeau Field or even Jerry World?

I'm also troubled by the slow extinction of meaningful out of conference home games. It further erodes the mystique of Tiger Stadium and deprives loyal season ticket holders and local Louisianans of marquee experiences.

The typical explanation for abandoning tradition and foresaking season ticket holders is money. However, as I wrote in another thread:

"I'm puzzled by the economics of the proposed deal. I understand that over any given two year period, a single neutral site game may be superior to a home and home series because it provides each team with the equivalent of 1.5 home games (i.e. half the gate from the nuetral site game plus the entire gate/concessions from whatever home game supplants the away game in the foregone home and home). However, two neutral site games seems tantamount to a home and home series, since either would provide each team with the revenue of a single home game (i.e. total gate/concessions from a home game or half the gate from two neutral site games). I suppose the timing of the revenue would be changed, but the total would be similar. Do these neutral site classics pay a fee on top of the gate? Do the schools participate in the concessions at the nuetral site games? Or is the fee in lieu of concessions?

I'd love to see a comprehensive economic analysis that shows how this is more profitable for LSU than a home and home. It may very well be due to various factors, but the cost-benefit math would be interesting."

Look at the payout from the Oregon vs LSU game in 2011 and what LSU vs TCU game will bring in.

"The richest payout previously went to LSU and Oregon in the 2011 edition of the Cowboys Classic that featured a matchup of preseason top-five teams. LSU’s guarantee last year was $3.5 million, while Oregon took $2 million.

It's more money than get from Tiger Stadium. Yes no $ to the Red Stick, but playing games in Dallas and Houston helps with recruiting. Yes, playing in Wisconsin does nothing for recruiting there, but just like the VA tech 2002 and 2007 home and home series, Arizona State, Washington upcoming Oklahoma in a few years. You have to travel at least once to their state/place. A top tier or average DI program is not going to travel to the red stick only without a return game at their house or state. Only teams like Towson, which get their $600K to $800K check from getting their A$$ kicked in tiger stadium can benefit. That money pays for some or most of their athletic budget. A team like Arizona or Washington that money won't make a dent in their athetic budget. So what is the incentive to come to Tiger Stadium, without you coming to play at their place.

I don't mind the single big game. I don't like home and home games not in home stadiums. The reason they do it is that they get the same money from the neutral game as a home game. In a normal home and home, you get a home game every other year. Two Neutral games would give you the equivalent of two home games.

So LSU gets twice the money for two Neutral sites.
