Regular home and home OOC games in CFB are going the way of dinosaurs. These big kickoff games make both schools a lot of money, whereas in a home and home situation, you lose the revenue of a home game without making it up with a neutral site kickoff game.

It's college football however that has gained a lot of exposure on network tv. People pay money to watch every college game, be it on some tv package or whatever.

The networks want to get that on their network. That means $$$.

So it comes down to money for the universities involved. They'll receive money as well. It's huge exposure for both teams.

There is a business aspect involved.

If it's all a business that's fine. I'd rather spend money on the better professional team in state, the Saints.

At least they don't piss down my leg and tell me it's raining when they increase fees for everything and ask me to contribute more like LSU does.

I love LSU. Graduated from there and have held tickets for 12 years now. They are never getting an extra dime from me if this is how they want to play it.

The Saints on the other hand will.

I'm against it as well, but not because I think LSU has a duty to pump up BR's economy because they don't. My issue is that I feel that LSU owes it to the season ticket holders to play some quality OOC opponents in Tiger Stadium. However, I realize that LSU makes more money doing these neutral site games than they would from a home and home, and that money helps LSU compete.

Later.

BTW, if you're selling your LSU tickets, let me know. I know a lot of people looking to buy.

LSU's job is to promote and expand its football program, not cater to season ticket holders. Neutral site games in Houston and Dallas are HUGE for LSU because of the financial return and the impact on these recruiting areas.

99% of LSU season ticket holders (like me) have no problem with these games. I think they're great for the football program and the university as a whole. For every season ticket holder that threatens to give up their tickets because of it, there are 100 people on the waiting list ready to grab them.

This does nothing for Baton Rouge and the area. Big money is diverted to other areas out of state instead of right here in Baton Rouge and the hometown of the opposing university.
With the liklihood of playing Wisconsin in Houston and then at Lambeau Field, neither Baton Rouge nor Madison, WI will benefit from the huge games.
Why is LSU and other major universities so okay with doing this? Seems like they'd want to help the local areas. If we're going to travel to Wisconsin and they're going to travel to Texas, they may as well travel to Baton Rouge and us to Madison anyway. I just don't get it and I think it's an example of the university admin simply not having Baton Rouge, the town that has opened its wallets to LSU over the past umpteen years, in their best interests. If we're going to play each other with a "home and home", make it a damn HOME AND HOME.

Unlike you LSU administrators understand the level of exposure playing a game in Houston gives LSU. This is TAMU country and if the Tigers can come in here and steal a piece of the pie and a few recruits, then it may cut into that TAMU lock. Plus, I would bet there are as many Tiger fans in the Houston metro area than in Baton Rouge.

It's easy to see who the season ticket holders are in this thread.

Baton rouge has been capital since 1882
LSU has been in baton rouge since 1869

BR has been the capital since 1849 with a temp change during war and reconstruction.

I could give you many MANY other links if you like.

And technically LSU didnt exist in 1869 either it was still Institute for the Deaf, Dumb, and Blind. In 1870 it became LSU.

BTW Opelousas became the state capital after BR then Shreveport. Might want to look into what happened in BR in 1862 to find out why.
