Experience for the kids (not the coach) in that kind of atmosphere - on the road, a lot of media, big opponent. Having done this early in the season will help in the future. Just look at KY basketball early in their season. They book big games in neutral sites to get the kids experience in those type of game situations.

Well shite, if it's better to play in Houston/Dallas, let just play all of our games there!!!! We'll be richer and recruiting will be even better!!!!!

I like visiting other college campuses, so I agree with you. Home and home arrangements are better than the neutral site games.

Noting all the complaining bout not playing enough games in TS, yet, with the exception of the bama game & the first 3 quarters of the USCe game, TS was emptying at an embarrassing pace for all the others by late in the second quarter. There were less than 40K midway the 4th quarter of the Moo State game & that was a close, exciting game till the end. And there are only 7 games. At least with these big out of town games, the LSU fans show up & stay till the end, especially in comparision to games in TS recently.

Lambeau Field...the house that Lombardi built...the cathedral of NFL stadiums. National broadcast. These are the kind of things recruits like to hear. Sometimes you have to accept when the positives outweigh the negatives...

I'm against it as well, but not because I think LSU has a duty to pump up BR's economy because they don't. My issue is that I feel that LSU owes it to the season ticket holders to play some quality OOC opponents in Tiger Stadium. However, I realize that LSU makes more money doing these neutral site games than they would from a home and home, and that money helps LSU compete.

For the most part, this.

I don't think that LSU necessarily "owes" me quality OOC games as a season ticket holder, but it sure would make it a little easier to cut that big check every year. Alas, I've got no leverage in the situation because the moment I say no to renewing my tickets, 20K people will be there more than happy to grab them.

That has nothing to do with what the OP was talking about.

Also, you can visit TCU's campus when you go to Dallas if you want. Or SMU's campus.

Can't wait to check out Prarieview A&M's campus! and to your left, if you remember the stabbing attack of spring 2013, you'll see where the 2nd victim was attacked….

Depriving Baton Rouge of the economic benefits of an LSU home game is about the last thing that the LSU athletic department thinks about. The net income from a home and home series over the two years is less than the net income from a neutral site game. If LSU schedules another home game to make it a home and neutral site series compared to the home and home series, then the benefits to the LSU athletic department grow even larger.

I was there. The place was pretty full until the end.

So 50K fans left before halfway through the 4th quarter? I find that very hard to believe.

It seems that the game has become less important than tailgating these days.

Yeah, I missed the point.

His point about loss of money to the local towns is a good reason for these games to be home and home. Another good reason is that a lot of college football fans want to be on campus when a college football game is being hosted. I don't want to visit Wisconsin's campus (or, in your example, TCU's or SMU's) on a non-football weekend. Just as opponent fans wouldn't care to waste time visiting LSU's campus on a non-football weekend. Is that a difficult point to understand?

One of the greatest aspects of college football is the pageantry. Sorry, but you don't get that in a sterile environment like Jerryworld or in Green Bay. In other words, I am not going to spend my money on those trips, whereas I certainly would if those games were hosted on college campuses.

I don't think "recruits" give a dang bout Lambeau field, but some LSU fans might.

Having a game in Texas is one thing, but Wisconsin???

Honestly, I do too gumbo. There is a good analysis on Mr SEC that explains the logic behind it.

LINK

“It’s about creating premium events with premium advertising and premium ticket prices,” Schmidt said. A match-up between LSU and Southern Cal in Tempe, Arizona, sponsored by Tostitos would fit the bill. So would a Tennessee-Notre Dame matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis… sponsored by Lucas Oil, of course.

Would hometown fans like losing a home game to a neutral site? On the surface, no. But if Florida fans had their choice between watching the Gators play Charleston Southern at The Swamp or seeing them play Ohio State in a made-for-TV monster at FedEx Field in DC, I’m guessing they’d choose the bowl game atmosphere of the neutral site game.

And the money is the draw for the schools. Arkansas and Texas A&M are projected to make $4 million per game during each of their 10 upcoming matchups.

If those schools played a home-and-home series, each school would bring in about $2 million per home game… every other year. Which looks better to you? $40 million or $10 million?

Verge Ausberry, the man behind LSU's scheduling, has said several times, off the record, to various media types, that LSU home games are about "business", i.e., the bottom line applies & that is the amount of $$$ a game puts in the LSU checking account. LSU could care less, and rightfully so, if area hotels are booked solid & restaurants do a booming business or not. A friend is in the restaurant business in BR & he says that his restaurant & a lot of others have come to expect the crowds to start coming in earlier & earlier as the season goes on. As in the fans are leaving the stadium earlier & earlier.

Obviously. One small but major thing. Most teams don't want to play in Death Valley. They Scared

Plus playing in other cities brings in lots more attention to the school. Whether it's athletics or academics.
