I think Kiffin would have been a good hire but you don't go from Coach O and what was perceived to be his clown show to Kiffin.

At that time, Kiffin only had 1 good year at Ole Miss. His ability to improve that program from year 1 to 2 was impressive, and that was before the portal was what it is today. I and many on this board felt at the time that he was worth the risk, but I also understood the unwillingness to roll the dice with so much on the line. We'd be set up for a long time with Lane. If things don't improve with Kelly in the next 3 years, maybe we'll be in a spot to go get him. I'm hoping that is not the case, though. I think Kelly is building a really strong foundation, but if he doesn't get these assistant hires right it will kill him. There's a chance we'll have a new OC and DC in 2026. Scary thought.

So.. that limits the pool of hires to..
Saban

O
Guz
LES
chizik

Last 15 years.

LK is better than 4 of them.

Having a basketball goal on the sideline tells you a lot about Kiffin....no thanks.
Kiffin is younger and hungry. He sometimes makes bad decisions in the media. But he actually wants to win a championship badly. Very badly. He’s not looking to retire on the beach in a couple years. His roster was less talented and they beat us with a backup quarterback. My only concern with Kiffin is how he can manage roster depth. That’s where ole miss fails

I never said BK should be fired. You threw out a comparison that makes little sense.

Kiffin is having success at Ole Miss. He’d be even better with LSU’s in state talent.

Has Ole Miss EVER won a SEC title? I honestly can’t remember. Not being a smart arse.

Hiring someone like Kiffin, who’s exceptional at coaching 1 side of the ball, gives you a greater chance of success. You have to trust the guy to make smart hires on the other side and live with the results but you’re starting on 3rd base. With Brian Kelly we might suck arse on defense or offense any given year with a chance to be bad on both sides.

Kiffin has worked out very well for Ole Miss and has actually stayed there for several years, which he was not in a habit of doing. And when he started for OM he had a reputation for immaturity and lack of judgment, to say the least. But he seems to have settled down and learned some lessons, maybe from Saban.
At the time we fired O, KIffin was a much riskier hire. And O left the program in an unstable mess. What the program desperately needed,, at least in the short run, was a steady hand and maturity. That was not Kiffin.
We got stability and maturity.
And paid WAAY too much for it.

People don’t want kiffin for two reasons.

1. He acts like a clown sometimes

2. Delusional thinking that a bigger name is possible.

The first one i understand. The second one, if you throw out his behavior and past and just look at current situation, he should be one of the highest targeted coaches in the country.

like kiffin but he’s gonna lose you 3 games a year too. Spent 20 million on a roster last year to lose to Kentucky

They spent 10 mil on that ole miss roster.

And yeah, he will probably lose you a couple games. So will kelly.

At least with lane you will have a good offense every yr and will never have to be worried about it.

Yes I agree his chances of getting a better roster are higher here.

Maybe after the big personalities of O and Les they were looking for a bland professionalism in the Saban mode but they only hit on half of it.
